Thyroid problems and ttc

October 15, 2007

I am hypo for many years now. I never used to be on syntroid until I got prengant with my first baby 3 years ago. I was on .088mg throughout my pregnancy and I was fine. I got pregnant again in April and lost the baby on Aug 3, due to several complications. During this second pregnancy I was on Syntroid .105 I think... My syntroid was immediately reduced after I lost the baby but the TSH level dropped to .08...which i s very low. It's the second time my endo reduced the dosage to .075 now within the past 8 weeks and my TSH level is still at .09 now...FT4 and FT3 are perfect...although my antibodies are really high at 326 and 106 (I think that the norm is like <60)...I don't know what to do...we wanted to start ttc for a baby this month but I don't want to put my pregnancy at risk...My endo said that since my T4 and T3 are perfect then she is not very worried about my TSH being temporarily low...

What is your opinion? And what about the high antibodies?

Please help!

Hi Angelika 11,

There is some logic to this as T4 and T3 are the actual functioning "working" thyroid hormones inside your body, and TSH you can consider as being a "marker". Since you're on meds, think it's also ok, but make sure you've also had a recurrent pregnancy work-up done by your doc so that if there's another issue, it can be addressed (because I think you said you lost 2 pregnancies). Good luck, and keep us posted...

Hi

No, I actually have one very healthy baby and I lost one pregnancy 2 months ago, due to T21 and many other complications @ 18 weeks. Nothing to do with my thyroid.

Thanks for your help.
