It sounds like you have Graves Disease. This disorder consist of having an overactive thyroid gland, because it is trying to compensate for being attacked by your autoimmune system. Any thyroid disorder can interfere with pregnancy but most can be controlled with medication and close follow up. I hope you have a good reproductive endocrinologist in your area who can help you with this...
Hi Meghhan, Hope u get all the answers, one of my ex coworker's wife also developed some kind of thyroid issues after the birth of her 1st child. Did ur Dr mention any connection between the two? or just random coincidence?
I see the endocrinologist at four... its 11:30 right now. I had the test on my heart this morning. the girl who did it said it looked fine... but the doctor will have to give me "official" results.
So, its Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. And he says that its been going on a long time. The pregnancy made things flare up, and it SHOULD calm down on its own. If it doesn't, he will put me on medication to regulate it. For now, I'm just on a Beta Blocker in hopes it will help stop the effects of the hormones... (ie headaches, fatigue.. etc), and we will keep monitoring my levels. I will have this forever, it may never cause me problems, or it may get to a point where I have to be on medication. But its not as bad as the neurologist made me think!
Glad that you found out what was wrong. And also good that hopefully it will not be a problem. Not if you get preggo again will you have to take meds so that it doesn't flare up? Have the meds started to work?
omg, thank God Meghan!!! I've been so worried, I've been doing a bunch of research on my own..LOL. I read that pregnancy can cause thryroid problems to get worse and that in most cases will calm back down on its own. I will keep you in my prayers.
He's doing really well. He's been unusually sleepy. He went down at like 9 and slept until like 930 this morning, woke up, ate, went back to sleep until almost one, finally woke up b/c i was putting away clothes in his room. He ate, and acted so sleepy.. he fell back to sleep nursing but i woke him up and tried to get him to play, put him in his little jumperoo so i could shower, and he was so tired when I got out that i put him back to bed. i called the pregnancy/breastfeeding risk line to double check on my new medication and they said it shouldn't affect him, and that the AAP says its safe. only 1.4% of the medication gets into the breast milk, and i'm only on 1/2 the mormal dose... so..... i dunno... its weird for him to sleep this much.
Actually Cam has had his days like that too. Even now, we'll wake up at 5:30am, feed him and leave for the school bus by 6:05am. Then he sleeps on the bus from 7-9am, we come home, I feed him, he goes back to bed from 10am to 1pm, I feed him, we leave for the school bus and he sleeps again from 2:30pm to 4pm, we come home, I feed him and darn it if he doesn't go back to sleep from around 6-7pm, I feed him his solids, give him a bath, feed his last bottle and he's in bed for 8pm. So really...Cam sleeps a heck of a lot every day. LOL It's actually pretty cool, my house is staying clean, I'm caught up on laundry and lately I've been taking the nap with him from 10-1. LOL :) Enjoy him sleeping, cause the teething is around the corner and he'll be up at night fussin and maybe with a fever too. At least he's giving you a much needed break while you're still under the weather :)
hey meghan!! i hope it goes under control on its own. is the beta blocker helping with the headaches? i sure hope so. so glad you've been diagnosed so you at least know what's going on.
Thanks Oli. BTW.... Is your name really oliver??? I'm dying to know what your actual name is.. hahaha... is taht silly? when i think of you... i think of that disney movie... oliver.... with the animals.. i think oliver is a cat in the movie.... and you like cats... so.. yeah.. anywyas..i'm rambling
That stinks Meghan!!! How long did the doc say it would take to work? Or if it isn't working now it won't help! :( I hope that isn't the case! HOw is the munchkin? Caden is good and is rolling now!!! He never stops!! Has Christian started rolling?
He said to call him today and let him know if it was working. He said there was a chance that it wouldn't help. I don't know what he is going to do if it doesn't work!
Thats awesome about Caden.. I love your new picture.... Christian doesn't roll often... but he has started figuring out how to scoot.. and he's starting to sit up on his own as well! He rolls every once in a while... but not often.
Speaking of Christian.. I just have to tell someone... he is laying in his bed, on the side close to the baby monitor b/c he spit up on the other side, and I havent' had a chacne to change the sheets this morning... but since he's near the monitor i can hear every breath he takes.. its melting my heart! :)
