September 12, 2007
Hi, I'm 25, and my huband is 47, we have been trying to get pregnat for like 8 months but we have had no luck, my husband take some test for varicocele, prostatitis etc etc. and everything seems ok, the espermograma will be taken tomorrow, he already gave a sample of semen, but the doctor said it was too little to make the test, but it is always that little, only a drop or two, I don';t know why is it if averything with him is fine, no varicocele, no prostato problems, no nothing... I'm thinking of start taking the omifin, but, 1.- do you thing it will work if my husband eyaculate only a drop or two of semen??? 2.- whan can we do for increase the volume of the semen eyaculated??
Please, please, please, aswer my questions, I would really appreciate it. we are desperated.
Thank you
Luly
Hi Luly,
An IUI without any monitoring can range from $450-700. Sometimes though, you may need to purchase medications, such as Omifen and have ultrasounds to monitor follicular growth, which add to the cost.
Only by contacting a center can they tell you if your insurance is covered. Most don't accept insurance HMO, but some PPOs are accepted, and the center can tell you if they have any programs.
I'd recommend for now to purchase an OPK, start checkin on CD 10, and once positive, this is the particular day to do the BD

There is very little that can be done to increase the volume, but consideration can be given to purchase supplements online, such as Proxeed, Fertile One, FertilityBlend, etc and believe some of these companies can ship internationally also...
Now, if there's enough sperm present in the semen with good motility, then Omifin (Clomid in the USA) can help you ovulate and an IUI can be done to concentrate the sperm for a potential pregnancy. Trying to get pregnant through intercourse with minimal volume but good sperm may be difficult.
Your partner should not ejaculate for at least 2 days, but no more than 7 before a semen analysis to try and get the volume up also. Sometimes, men can occasionally "miss the cup" during ejaculation also. I'd give it another try at a semen analysis just to make sure there's sperm.
