taking clomid.. over weight

August 15, 2008

Dr. I am on my second round of clomid and i have been hearing that clomid is not as successful for women who are over weight. My doctor has never mentioned my weight and i am 5'1 and 210lbs. I am 28 yrs old and have PCOS. We have been ttc for yrs naturally and i was recently diagnosed. I am at my highest weight ever now and i didnt get pregnant ever even when i was about 145lbs.

Am i wasting my time with clomid? 1st round 50mg 3-7 my progestrone was 9.8 so doc said i didnt ovulate. now im on 100mg 3-7 and waiting..

Im just tired of trying so hard and nothing seems to be working..

Thanks in advance

Hi Tiffany yes it would be best to lose the weight because of health risk many dr's will not give meds out until the patient loses the weight...good luck and keep us posted!!!!

Welcome,

I agree, losing weight is always the best first choice for younger women, and also helps avoid possible complications in upcoming pregnancy...

If one has PCOS, Clomid has been shown to be better than no treatment for PCOS patients

Hello

I was also diagnosed with pcos. I went to the RE earlier this month. I'm 5ft 1in and weigh 180lbs. My RE told me to lose about 20 to 30lbs. Because people who are over weight tend to have misscarrages. I am and now down to 172. I will be talking clomid in sept.

my doctor said that clomid should work fine for me even though im over weight. she did say that it would be healthier to loose weight but it is not on her top of concerns.. She hasnt asked me to lose any weight just to start making heathy choices.

Good luck to you Mrs stac! Prepare yourself for those hot flashes..lOL there driving me crazy...but well worth it

Thanks tiff.

Does clomid make you have hot flashes?

August 22, 2008

Hello, ladies!! Yes clomid does give hot flashes! I think it varies for everyone but for me hot flashes and crazy mood swings! I also got a lot of cramping but that is expected when taking fertility meds. Good luck to you all and baby dust all around!

Hey Tiffany - I am 5ft 3in and 268lbs. My Dr. has prescribed Femara for me. My Dr. also said that losing weight was a secondary issue. I have been on Metformin and I believe that has helped with my weightloss thus far. I was 291 at the beginning on June.

I have seen some articiles on the plus size pregnancy and although there are greater risks for overwight women it is possible to have a happy and healthy pregnancy. After all 50% of the population is overweight and the birthrate hasn't dropped by 50%!

Well I started my mentrual cycle on sunday . Today I went to the RE to do blood work this would be the 3rd day of my cycle. The nusrs called me and told me that everything was fine but still haven't received the glucose. Then she told me to make an appointment next week for a follow up with the test results. But did not say anything about taking the clomid yet. Now my concer is the paper work that I received the first day I went to the RE said the nurse will tell you to take clomid on the 3rd or 5th day of your cycle. My nurse didn't tell me to take anything she just told me to make a follow up appointment next week.. I have the clomid at home. Does anyone know what the next step is and why the nurse didn't tell me to take anything. Thanks, Stacy
