Sugical sperm collection (SSC)

September 07, 2008

Just wondering if anyone knows if having SSC results in having more sperm to be able to use for IVF process' My fianncee has a a sperm issue and where told that if we are to do IVF it might be best you harvest sperm via SSC.

Would SSC result in a higher sperm count then via ejectulation?

Whats the process like?

Whats the likely hood that we would have more 'healthy' sperm to work with? As on his last sa/trial wash he only had 2million sperm with only 3 good sperm after doing wash.....

Any help would be great...

If there's sperm in the epidydimis, then all that may be necessary would be to simply place a needle, many times under local anesthesia, and aspirate sperm...

In other situations, he may have to be put under and a good biopsy taken out of the testes and sperm sought after

These sperm tend to be a little more "immature" than freshly ejaculated sperm and thus require ICSI
