submucous fibroid

August 11, 2008

Hi there,

I've just returned from a vaginal ultra sound. Im feeling very anxious as the results didnt come back normal. The doctor who did the scan wasnt obliged to discuss the results in any great detail instead advising me to talk to my doctor. But i cant see my doctor for another 2 days! so im very concerned.

In short heres what they found.

1. Endometrium = 7mm AP. There is a 9mm posterior wall submucous fibroid.

2. Rt ovarian volume= 7.8cc,

Lt ovarian=9.5cc

Both ovaries contains multiple small follicles,? multifollicular? polycystic please correlate with biochemistry results.

This doesnt sound to good to me so but im trying to stay positive. Any light you could shed to help me understand what it really means would be much appreciated.

Hello, so the only concerning feature on your ultrasound is the 9mm posterior wall fibroid. This will need to be further investigated by hysteroscopy, everything else appears wnl.

Hi,

Thanks for yr fast response. Can you tell me why this is a concern? is 9mm considered a big fibroid? Could it be affecting my chances of conceiving? and how treatable is it?

Also what about the multiple small follicles found on both my ovaries?

I should mention that i have regular periods and have had a 21 progesterone test along with other hormone tests which have all come back normal.

Thanks for your advice Dr.

Oh also forgot to mention that my uterus contained a '10mm anterior wall intramural fibroid'.

Is this also cause for concern?
