Still not ovulating

July 14, 2008

I am 28 years old. I have gone through 3 rounds of Clomid and have not ovulated. I am currently in my 4th round of Clomid, in conjunction with Metformin (only for the last month) and today is CD 13. My OPKs have been negative so far. Tomorrow I have an ultrasound to see if I have any mature follicles.

I am really getting frustrated as to why I am not ovulating. I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor (Prolactinoma) over a year ago. I take Bromocriptin to reduce the tumor and the tumor has been virtually undetectable for the last several months. My RE says that he does not think the anovulation is due to the tumor.

What should I expect at my ultrasound tomorrow? What if I don't have any follicles--what does that mean and where do I go from here?

What dosage of Clomid do they have you on?

July 14, 2008

150 mg. I started out at 50, but then increased to 100, then 150. My RE says he thinks I have PCOS, but I have no idea what he is basing it on. I am 5'3", 112 lbs--not your typical PCOS candidate...

Ive read abt women not ovulating on Clomid, but then on Letrozole or stronger meds like injectible gonadotropins.

having a pituitary tumor can cause higher prolactin harmone levels and that can inhibit ovulation. Once your prolactin is normal then u may ovulate.

July 14, 2008

also if ur tumor has gone, talk to ur Dr abt the other meds mentioned

July 14, 2008

My prolactin levels are normal. Yes, I will talk to the doc about other meds if this round of Clomid doesn't work. Have you ever heard of anyone never being able to ovulate???

July 14, 2008

Welcome Amy,

agreed, talk to your doc more about injectable gonadotropins to help you ovulate, and you should on these meds

July 14, 2008

Thanks, Dr. Q. Any advice helps:)

July 14, 2008

Dr. Q.,

During online research about gonadotrophins, I found that people with pituitary tumors should not take injectables. Are you familiar with this?

July 15, 2008

amy guess waht my name is amy to and i have a tumor my levels were 5322 and was put on dosnex 0.5 mg then carbergoline 1 mg my level are 8.8 doctor has just rang and told me

July 15, 2008

My levels went way down after meds, too. I thought that my fertility issues would end there but I was wrong. Have you tried injectables at all?

July 15, 2008

what were your levels

July 15, 2008

I can't remember...maybe in the 100's??? I am assuming that you mean my prolactin levels. I think I remember my doc saying that my levels were down to 9. I got blood-work done yesterday and go to my Endo Dr. on Thursday to see what the results are. Have you heard anything about people with pituitary tumors not being able to use injectables?

my boobs still leak but water all bloods are fine tho

July 15, 2008

Did your tumor produce Prolactin or another hormone?

July 15, 2008

the purtity gland is what produce it the tumor is the size of a pea i had mine for around 4 years with out knowing

July 15, 2008

Yes, the pituitary develops the tumor, but most pituitary tumors "over-produce" a hormone. Mine over-produced prolactin. It sounds like yours did, too, since you had the milk leakage (that comes from too much prolactin).
