Starting on 100mg Clomid??

So far all my bloodwork- normal, HSG-normal. However we were told shape of sperm marginal. I am curious why the doctor stared me on 100mg of Clomid day 3-7 instead of a lower dosage? I am 37 and have never been pregnant before. Is there a higher chance of multiples since I ovulate normally? Is there more of a chance of multiples with 100mg vs. 50 mg?

Will you be getting monitored w/ US? Also, did you ask your DR why he started you on 50?

I took 50 when conceiving my daughter at age 34. responded very well, got preg on 2nd cycle

but now it's taking long to get preg w/ #2. i will be 37 in january. I'm on 100mg. did 3 cycles so far, got preg on 2nd cycle of 100mg - but it was a chemical preg.

Good luck!

No US monitoring for the first cycle. in fact the doctor called this in over the phone for me. My insurance doesn't cover anything fertility related, so I think he was trying to save me a trip in.

I didn't really discover until today that most people start on 50mg and I am scheduled to start tomorrow. I didn't know any better intitially as far as asking about the 100mg.

Sounds kind of familiar. I am 39. I ovulate on my own. HSG was perfect. Bloodwork was great. I was just given Clomid 50mg and told to take 2 (100mg total) on CD 5-9, CD12 ultrasound to check for follies, and Ovridel trigger followed by IUI!!!

I am assuming that it may have to with my age. I was just curious as it seems most start on 50 mg and work their way up. Doctor basically put me on Clomid to give hubby "more to shoot at"

I think you may be right with the age thing. I agree with your thinking 100 is high to start. I actually asked my RE if we could try "natural IUI" and I was simply told they don't do IUI without meds. I would have actually preferred this since I ovulate on my own but it wasn't an option. I do have a lot of faith in the group of doctors that I treat with. They are literally "world renowned". I'm thinking the "more to shoot at" thing is probably true in my case as well!!!!

Good Luck to you.

Well, it might be nice to stay in touch. Out of curiosity are you taking any Mucinex/Robitussin? What about baby aspirin? I keep reading about this stuff and not sure to take or not to take without a doctor's approval.

Where are you from in Ohio? I am originally from Akron. I was just there October.

I bought Mucinex and never took it!!! I did try baby aspirin one cycle (Sept)

Alot of members have mentioned that the Mucinex really helps with cervical mucuous and they've noticed a difference. I did talk to my RE at University Hospitals about this and I was told that there is no proof or evidence that cervical mucuous or lack of plays a role in conception. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have "more" just for comforts sake though. I was taking the aspirin to help with my lining. After having an ultrasound I was told that my lining was right on and then that kind of became a "non" issue for me.

I can't imagine that either of these meds could hurt but not sure that they help either after talking to my Dr. Of course, everybody has their own opinions of this I'm sure.

I'm just west of Cleveland in Avon Lake. Grew up in Boardman, so we were neighbors!!! Are you still in Ohio?

Feel free to send me a message anytime. If you want to read more about the mucinex and baby aspirin there is a thread on here somewhere about the "sperm meets egg plan" and I think that goes into it a little more.

I moved from Ohio years ago, but still have family there. I am in California now. Well, I honestly feel like I've entered into a whole other world with these support groups/chat rooms. It seems that there may be something to be gained...even if it is learning to ask the doctor better questions. I don't know if I mentioned this, but I don't have any children. This is the first time I have ever tried to get pregnant.

I honestly feel like I am learning about my body for the very first time...I don't remember learning all this in health class! It is interesting and at the same time overwhelming as if I have some catching up to do.

Let me know if you have knowledge or if your doctor(s)has ever mentioned if there is a higher percentage for multiples due to the 100mg vs 50 mg and/or if there may be a greater chance for multiples if someone already ovulates on their own.

I am a bit nervous about the multiple thing...I have a friend pregnant with triplets and I can't even begin to imagine. Twins maybe, but triplets? Goodness gracious.

Best of luck to you and your hubby and feel free to pop in and say hi!
