OKAY, WOULD IT BE WORTHWHILE ENOUGH FOR ME TO DO 2 VIALS INSTEAD OF ONE? ALSO, WITH ME DOING THIS AT HOME AND BEING A HEALTHY WOMAN WITH NO REPRODUCTIVE PROBLEMS HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT THIS TO TAKE BEFORE IT WORKS?
sperm banks
August 25, 2007
hello,
my husband and i are considering going to a sperm bank. we already have 5 kids but we really want one more. he has had a vasectomy so that is why we are exploring other options. we found a bank that we like that will allow us to do it at home. so i guess what i am asking is...... how exactly is the procedure done at home? how many vials should i purchase to use each cycle? is there anything that i could do to improve my chances of conception? any advice or info on this would be appriciated.thanks

Hi Chrissy,
An Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is more effective when a professional does it since the professional navigates a catheter through the cervix, into the uterus and deposits the sperm there.
When attempted at home, one just attempts to place the sperm right at the cervical opening, and some sperm will be lost in the vagina, but people do get pregnant this way and don't want to discourage you from doing so if you desire. Good luck and keep us posted

Thank you for using FertilityTies and we hope you continue posting with us...
With a vasectomy, although more expensive, you and your husband can conceive a biological child through IVF + ICSI after a TESE and can read more about this by searching this site.
Now, to do an at home insemination, you can do this through a couple different methods. Most commonly, people buy regular needleless syringes at any pharmacy and they fill this up with IUI grade semen they purchased from the bank. You should only need one vial per cycle that is to be done the day after a positive OPK. You should become familiar with the position of your cervix, and should readily recognize it through tactile sensation. The seminal contents should basically touch any part of the cervix when pushing the plunger, with a syringe that is long enough, usually at least 4 inches for easier placement.
There are also cervical caps in which the semen is placed on the cap, and then the cap inserted onto the cervix. You can purchase these also and there are many types available, but generally have to be fitted first by your gyne. Most people that I know of usually use a syringe.
This should pretty much do it and keep us posted on the outcome.
