Im 34 and TTC#1 for 17 months. Recently found out that I have one blocked fallopian tube (discovered through HSG). The problem is the blocked tube is on the side where I have my good/dominant ovary. This month for the first time, I tried combination of Clomid and Follistims, but IUI was cancelled because on 10 day ultrasound my ovary on the unblocked side did not respond that much. My RE said I have a whole bunch of 16 mm, and 15 mm follicles on the blocked side, but my unblocked side, the follicles were small. What should I do? Should I try IUI again next month or just consider IVF?

Hi SR,

I think the writing is in the wall...IVF will definately in your case most likely be the most cost-effective way (yep, because the IUIs may not work as well for you as you can see) for you to get pregnant and would strongly consider it. Keep us posted and let us know what you decide

Hello Dr.,

When my IUI was cancelled, I had taken 5 days of Clomid and only one day of the Follistim injections. So my husband is thinking that I should try next cycle one more try of IUI with injectables only. Do you think that there is more chance of getting more follicles with injectables? If I can only get a couple of follicles on the ovary on the open fallopian tube side, then I think I would have a chance. So, this will be my last IUI with injectables if my RE lets me and if not sucessful, I will have to start looking for a good RE for IVF in the Orange County, CA Area? Can you recommend any? Thank you and I really appreciate and value all of your answers.

Hi Sr,

It's always your choice in determining what you'd like to do. An injectable only cycle can create more follicles, and hopefully some on the same side your tube is in, but you may run a significant risk of multiple births, and is something to talk more about with your doc.

In terms of Orange County REs, my partner that I work with, Dr. Brian Acacio with SIRM-LA and OC, practices out of Laguna Niguel on Crown Valley Pkwy between the 5 and 73 fwys and highly recommend him. You can make an appt with him at (949) 249-9200 and like always, thank you for using FertilityTies and please keep us posted
