Self Administered Fertility Treatment-Octuplets

Thank you for posting this! I really appreciate & hope that women will follow this warning. This sort of thing in my opinion, could have turned life threatening for both mother & children! It is scary!

I feel so strongly about this, and I worry sometimes that with a bad economy and the internet, patients are trying to do this and it is not right!! It is VERY DANGEROUS!!!!

I could not agree with you more. This type of behavior is both reckless and dangerous. These preemies are doing well but the long term effects of being a preemie could last a lifetime. Not to mention the long term costs of raising these children. In my opinion, this case is nothing short of senseless and selfish.

I get people telling me all the time that it is crazy that I am messing with God by seeking the help of an RE to get pregnant. It is cases like this that give infertility patients and Dr.s a bad name.

I wish these babies good health and that their parents would have used much better judgement. I dr would not have performed an IUI with that many follicles. It is just too dangerous!

i was shocked to hear this story myself. I hope that these babies grow up healthy and happy.

I cant understand how in the world this lady ended up with 8 babies all sticking and thriving..... wow, one in a million chances.

There are plenty of people that we see on TV that have 4, 5 and 6 babies thru fertility treatments monioted by doctors tho. Not ideal.

Although i do not know this familys struggles or story i can tell you that at a certain point you kinda lose your mind and will try anything, absolutley anything, to have a baby, or more.

Not a great idea to self-medicate, obvioulsy, but im sure a lot of us can relate to why she would do something like that.

I cannot even speak from experience since i'm not TTC, but I can imagine why many would consider doing this out of desperation, but that's why we're here to give you the medical perspective and tell you why it can be very very dangerous.

Hope - I just read that article- how sad.. all the babies did not survive.. :(
