If you are currently seeing your general practitioner or obstetrician/gynecologist for help with your infertility, you may be interested in taking the next step forward with your fertility treatments. Many couples who are struggling with infertility find that choosing to see a reproductive endocrinologist helps them to increase their chances of conceiving. Reproductive endocrinologists have special training that enables them to give you the treatment and attention that you need when you are facing fertility issues.

What is a Reproductive Endocrinologist?

A reproductive endocrinologist is a type of medical doctor who specializes in treating people with reproductive disorders. Many infertile couples choose to see a reproductive endocrinologist when deciding upon fertility treatments. It is a reproductive endocrinologist's job to identify factors involved in your infertility and appropriate methods with which to treat these factors.

What does a Reproductive Endocrinologist Do?

A reproductive endocrinologist is trained to manage a number of different problems related to the reproductive system. Reproductive endocrinologists deal with:

hormonal disorders

menstrual problems

infertility

pregnancy loss

sexual dysfunction

menopause

Reproductive endocrinologists can treat men, women, and children of any age.

What Treatments do Reproductive Endocrinologists Offer?

Reproductive endocrinologists can perform a wide variety of treatments for infertility. If you are facing infertility, your reproductive endocrinologist will first run a variety of fertility tests, in order to determine the cause of your fertility. Your reproductive endocrinologist can then suggest some appropriate treatments that may increase your chances of conceiving. Common treatments offered by reproductive endocrinologists include:

fertility drugs, like Clomid

infertility surgery

assisted reproductive therapy (ART)

What Qualifications do Reproductive Endocrinologists Have?

Reproductive endocrinologists are highly qualified professionals. They have all completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. In addition to this, reproductive endocrinogists have completed two to three years of training in reproductive endocrinology. In order to become a qualified reproductive endocrinologist, an oral and written exam must also be completed.

How to Find a Reproductive Endocrinologist

Finding a reproductive endocrinologist is a very important task. You need to be sure you find a skilled endocrinologist whom you like. Ask your obstetrician or gynecologist for a referral, or contact your country's reproductive endocrinology licensing board. Make sure that your reproductive endocrinologist is a licensed professional.
