secondary amenorrhea and Provera

I am wondering if anyone can answer some questions for me...I am 32 y/o and had my son in July of 06. Went back on the BCP when he was about 3-6 months old. Went off the BCP in August of this year so that my husband and I could start trying for a second baby. I have not had a period since August of 08 when I stopped BCP. I went to see a nurse practitioner in November and she had me start a 12 day course of Provera, which I finished on 11/21/08. Still no period. Now they have me scheduled for further testing (TSH, estrogen, FSH, and HCG) for 12/18/08 before starting another course of Provera on 12/19/08. In the meantime, I have been taking ovulation tests every day in an effort to conceive on my own without Provera and these tests are giving me mixed results and further confusing me!! I have been getting many positive results from the ovulation tests, depending on what time of the day I take the tests...I usually get a positive result with first urination of the day but a very faint line (negative result?) with testing later in the day. I have even gotten a faint line, which I am interpreting as negative, late in the day after getting a positive reult in the morning! I am so confused by this...HELP! First question, is it possible or probable that the Provera is still in my system and is throwing off the results of the ovulation tests? Second question, are morning results more accurate with ovulation tests than afternoon results (similar to pregnancy testing)? Third and lastly, is it possilbe that I am still ovulating even though I am not menstruating?? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Sincerly.

Julie

Hi Julie,

One needs a strong positive on OPKs for them to be reliable, and given your history, you're more than likely not ovulating at this time...

Not possible to menstruate if not ovulating and usually recommend checking OPKs in the morning..

Let's wait and see what your results show, and you may need treatment to now help you ovulate and menstruate to ttc
