Saliva Ovulation Detector

I've never used the saliva tests only the urine opk's and I like them alot and got preggers the first month using one cause I found out I was ovulating 4 days earlier than I thought. Good LUCK!!

I used one and found it very helpful, but it doesn't work as well for everyone. It may take a few months to be able to decide between ferning and no ferning or partial ferning. I also checked cm and cervical postition to help. I guess it was like a secondary assistant to my other methods. If you want to try it go ahead. Maybe try it with OPk. Because the nice thing with saliva is there is a gradual build up of ferning to know when ovulation is on its way and the OPK and give you a defininte answer. Good luck. Hope this helped some! Thank you for your thoughts Sar and Fran. I decided on the fertility scope because it can be re-used (unlike the strips). I plan to use it along with BBT. Hope it works!

i liked my maybe mom saliva ovulation predictor, i felt it was much easier to use and detect the ovulation then with the strips, not to mention the cost! Good lcuk to ya!

I USE THE SALIVA TEST BUT I SOMETIMES STRUGGLE TO GET A PROPER READ IN THE MORN AND DO BETTER IN ARVO. AND ITS HARD TO TELL WHATS FERNING AND WHAT TRANSITIONAL. WISH IT WAS ALL SO EASIER!!

Bstar, you need to do it in the morining before you do anything - no eating or brushing you teeth. The reason is cuz it picks up on the salt in your saliva.

I am wondering something about it tho - so when it is all ferns does that mean you are ovulating that day or does that mean that you are most fertile that day?

After a couple days, I realized I was using it wrong. LOL! I think I've got the proper method now though. No "ferning" yet .... lot's of crystals, but no "ferning".

I do use it first thing in the morn but it takes me 2-3 goes before i get a proper read. Does the full ferning last more than one day? cos I think I had full ferning on thursday arvo but it wasnt there the next day.If i do it in the arvo i dont eat or drink 3 hours prior. But have still been bleeding for about 5 days.

yes, the ferning can last more than a day. In the beg of yoru cycle you will jsut see dots and then further into your cycle you will see some ferns and then for 2 or 3 days it will be all ferns and then nothing but dots again after you ovulate.

See thats the thing that confuses me. I had my Af from 21 of feb to the 25th then started testing and got dots then on the 3rd of march i started to fern with dots and that lasted for about a week and i have been spot/bleed for 6 days now, and today the saliva test showed just dots. Im thinking i ovulated but just maybe not using the detector right. Im thinking of giving it away and stop thinking about it. maybe im using too much saliva or too little,how do you know? So frustrated.

sorry just wanna add that if I was ferning something must be happening cos this bleed cant be my Af, not due for 2 more weeks.

Bstar - i was thinking that same exact thing this moring!!! Im so friggin confused with that thing! I too, started testing rather early, i think it was day 6 or so and it showed dots THEN the next day i showed ferns, not tons but some and continued to show ferns and then on day 13 no dots so i figured i ovulated but then on day 16 and 17 ferns AGAIN!!! Now yesterday i went to the doc for an ultrasound cuz of pain and he said it didnt look like i had ovulated at all this cycle (im on day 21) which is weird! I have been using the pee stick tests too but never got a + on those..... im lost, i dont knwo how to use that thing.

Seems like if you put too much spit on it doesnt work right but if you put to little then it wont show ferns either. TODAY on CD 21 i did it when the last 2 days were no ferns at all now, today there were little ferns again! URG!!!!

Did you let the saliva dry thoroughly before looking at it? I've done countless test runs with my scope, just hoping to make sense of what I was seeing. Today, was the first day I saw any ferning, long after I had expected to see any. And the funny thing is, would you believe this morning was the day I didn't do a BBT.

yup, let it dry all the way b4 looking at it - I have had ferning almost every day this month so I don’t know what the heck is going on!

Maybe that means you're quite fertile! LOL After that one time I saw ferning (in the middle of the day would you believe?), it disappeared. Now all I'm getting is what I suspect as "transitional".
