Salicylic Acid

I am 4weeks pregnant and I have been researching the Do's and Don'ts. Well I stumbled across some things that say salicylic acid can cause birth defects.

I use DDF 2% Salicylic Wash 2 times per day and then I also put on a "primer" under my make up that contains Salicylic Acid.

Some places said that only ORAL Salicylic Acid was bad and that Topical was fine as long as you weren't soaking in it.

So now I am really worried. I want to do the best thing for my baby. Can I still follow my current skin care regiment?

This is basically Aspirin which isn't really recommended to take...but can't comment on what a facial wash should do...

benzoyl peroxide is usually considered ok to take in pregnancy though for acne

Well I asked my Doc about it today and she said that topical was fine. I haven't decided yet, but I didn't use it yesterday or today.

Jenstar - I am giving it up - at least for the first trimester. It's not worth the risk...I won't even color my hair :) I will use some benzyl perozide gel on the really big ones! - but as always its a personal choice for every woman.

Thanks, I was wondering about coloring my hair too. I did it yesterday right before my IVF transfer just in case. :O) THANKS!!

hey jen - i was thinking about you earlier! I know that when shelly got preggo with her twins she went to have her hair dyed the day before the IUI "just in case" so maybe that is a good thing to do! :)

How many did you have put back in hun?
