Hi all - sorry to post this here, this is my first post and I'm a little confused about where things post. I thought I was sending to a dr. Since I'm here - hi everyone! This is the first site I've ever felt comfortable enough to join, it sounds like you ladies are very knowledgeable and supportive. As you can see, I've been ttc 2 yrs and just had my first IUI, fingers crossed. Much baby dust to all who need it and thanks in advance!!
Questioning Course of Action
August 28, 2008
Hi - I've been reading a lot of stories on this site and am now curious about my RE's "plan". I am 36, ttc 2 yrs, all testing "normal", DH "great". Dr. wanted to start with IVF, but I said no, I wanted to try IUI first. So I just had my first IUI 7 days ago. I did Follistim 6 days (150 IU), an Ovidrel shot (250 MCG), and the IUI.
In your opinion does this sound like an aggressive starting point? Any ideas why he might have chosen this route for me?

hun, you probably did post this to a Dr. But it also shows up on the main discussion board too :) So I am guessing you did the post right - don't worry! Dr. Q orf Dr. Eva will probably get to your question with in a day or so. THey are not online all the time but they keep up pretty well with questions :) If my anychance yours slips through the cracks- please post another question- sometimes they get so overwhelmed with posts/questions a few might slip through the cracks. They are very helpful, as are so many of the members. There are many on here that have undergone- or is undergoing IVF, IUIs, fertility meds, or just plain old good "practicing" :)
People of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds have occupy this site- and quite frankly, I think some of them know more about the female reproductive system than some OB/GYNS!! :)

Welcome to FertilityTies!!!
Ness, you are one of the bravest and most informed people out there!!! Take charge of your own fertility and applaude you for this...
Us REs, we want everyone to do IVF for a vast majority of reasons and many will twist your arm to do so when not needed...
Granted, some definately need it, but a good proportion doesn't, yet are convinced to do so...
Like I always say, if an RE isn't willing to give you options with associated rates...chances are he/she are not looking out for your best interest but moreso for him/herself...
Assuming all your testing is normal, yes, if you so decide after adequate counseling that you want to do upto 3 cycles of IUIs, Go 4 IT!!! Completely reasonable :D
If you don't get pregnant, get tired, have any other reason including for some financial, IVF is always there, but don't hold off on IVF for too long either..
Good luck, and keep us posted....

To me this plan sounds aggresive, but I'm sure your doctor has his or her reasons as to why she wants to go through with this plan. Maybe he/she is thinking IVF because you have been trying for 2 years ? Have you tried less invasive procedures or medication? That or maybe due to your age (even though you NOT old -:) , the best shot might be IVF? I'm not sure. Maybe Dr. Q could just give his opinion?
