Question about NT test
April 04, 2008
Okay I have a question..My Dr office ordered a NT test..The said that on 04 05 2008 that I would have to pric my finger and put the blood on this lab slip that they gave me and then send it off in the mail to the lab..The said that there are only two labs in the US that does the blood work for the NT test..the said that the blood work and U/S was timed so i would have to do the blood work on that day ans send it off..The scheduled the U/S for 04 22 2008 at that point i will be twelve or 13 weeks..What i am asking you ladies that have done this test or Dr Q is this normal procedure..It seems like they would do the finger stick in the office and send it off themselves..So I am not sure if this normal procedure
I don't know the answer to the question. However, what I can tell you is the ultrasound is performed by an ultrasound technician. Your doctor isn't there. Now, after my ultrasound, I had a nurse (or someone) come in and prick my finger for the test. Perhaps your doctor's office doesn't have enough nurses to do this...perhaps it's a cost saving measure.
Even if it's not the norm, I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with having you do it yourself.

Also on that day they are dong an U/S of my cervix to see how long it is to see if they need to stich it together..i think the place that i go to handles alot of high risk stuff..and maybe that is why my RE referred me out..because the person that did my reg u/s when i went in was a maternal fetal DR..and a nurse was in there too taking notes..but no u/s tech..
