? about acupuncture

Hi Dr. Horn,

I recently saw your response to a FEB/2008 post about acupuncture and IVF. You responded to a question about a faulty study done by Latasha Craig that used forbidden points after ET. I am currently seeing an acupuncturist and asked about the forbidden points in the TWW period. She said there was one area that she doesn't use in the TWW time and that the others are fine. I had seen an article about the forbidden points in a link somewhere from this site but am having trouble finding it. It stated all the forbidden points in technical terms that an acupuncturist would understand. Does this article sound familiar to you and if so, would you be able to let me know the link?

If the article doesn't sound familiar, would you be able to let me know which points are OK before transfer and which are the forbidden points so that I can show them to my acupuncturist. I am getting ready to embark on my first IVF journey (the only one covered by my insurance, therefore this may be the only IVF cycle I can afford) and I absolutely want to make the most of it and have the highest probability of success, also considering the fact that I will turn 40 in a few weeks, so age is also not on my side.

Please, please help!!

Karen good luck on your IVF cycle. When is your transfer? I currently go to an acupuncturist now and would like to know the forbidden points also just to make sure.

Hi Carrie,

I don't know when the transfer will happen and hopefully I have enough eggs that will fertilize and get to transfer but hopefully sometime mid-September, if all goes well. Keep me posted on your progress.

Hello,

Sorry I can't help with the article or the forbidden points but I can tell you that I have been doing acupuncture and my Dr./acupuncturist knows which points not to do. He asked me to keep him informed as I go along in the process, at that time I was doing IUI ( I just started the IVF process and Ins. will only pay for this last attempt too, sounds like we are in the same boat now). I told him when I started the meds and when I where I was in the process and when I entered the 2ww. Before the 2ww he placed many points in my belly, legs, ankle ect. During the 2ww the only points where in my head and possibly my wrists--NOTHING IN MY BELLY OR FEET AT ALL. Wishing you lots of luck. :O)

Thanks Jenstar,

Do you by any chance live in the Northeast? I was just wondering because our state limits the number of IVF cycle that insurance has to pay for. BTW, I made a telephone consult appointment with Dr. Berkley but I also found an acupuncturist who is certified and trained for fertility and she's not that far from my home. So we'll see what happens. Here's praying to God for both of us to have a BFP this cycle. Miracles happen everyday through God's grace!!!
