protein

April 13, 2008

I am almost 13 weeks pregnant and am still feeling nausea. Been able to eat green salads, fruits, cheeses and bread (of course!) but having difficulty with protein other than steak. Any suggestions? I"m taking my prenatals every day but am concerned that my baby isn't getting enough protein.

can you eat peanut butter? also tofu is a lean source of protein. i'm about 10 weeks pregnant and i'm very nauseous and vomiting, but i have to take meds so that helps me eat more things. before like you, i couldn't eat anything but fruits and a few other things and i couldn't eat any meats. good luck, i really hope your morning sickness goes away soon.

go grab a tub of protein powder from teh health store, the whey tastes much better than the soy (i think so anyway) and make a shake a couple times a day, throw some fat free plain yogurt, a bananna and a scoop of the powder in there. I think one scoop has 20 or 25 grams of protein so that is a great way to get it. Isnt too filling so you could drink it as a snack. Not fatty at all if you are using the fat free milk or yogurt..... its a very tasty way to get your amount.

Hey Lauryn,

My nutritionist recommended BeneProtein. Its a product of Novartis who also makes Benefibre. I love it. 32 servings is around $10 from walgreens online store only. One scoop has 7 mg Protein which is good coz its not that much and easier to metabolise and u can mix it with prepared food and eat it or mix it with plain water or milk. I drink milk 3 times a day and each serving gets 1 scoop of Beneprotein.

Most importantly its Whey (Milk) protein and not fully Soy.

i buy from vitamin shoppe and thier brand is so tastey - it not only has protein in it but also lots of vitamins and splenda so you preggos can have it and its the whey like hopeN said. It doesnt have a gritty yucky taste like some powders and you can choose from Vanilla, Chocolate and banana cream. I like the Vanilla best cuz then you can mix whatever in it and it all tastes good.

We buy the 5 pound tub and i think its around $35 but lasts forever and my man uses 4 scoops a day!

I have a "magic bullet" (no, its not a sexual thing LOL) its like a mini blender that i use every morning to mix the shake and its perfect.... mmmmm.... love it!

Here is the link, you can get a smaller tub too. Make sure you like something b4 you buy a huge tub cuz some of that stuff tastes like crap! lol!

You know.. thats so funny.. all I could tolerate was steak in the beginning.. and I've heard a few other pregnant ladies say the same thing!

Dont' worry about it too much while you are nauseas.. eat what stays down for now.. when the nausea goes away, it will be easier to worry about the protien and such!
