Progesterone Level CD 18?

June 16, 2008

I had blood drawn yesterday (CD 18) and my progesterone was 0.7. Also, I've been spotting for 3 days now starting on CD 16. It keeps going back and forth between red and light brown, heavier and lighter. Same thing happened to me last month, spotted from CD 16 until I started AF on CD 24.

Anyone had anything similar to this? I don't really understand exactly what any of this means... Can you ovulate while spotting like this? Can you ovulate after CD 18? I'm pretty sure things do not look promising this cycle, but I'm still waiting on some more blood tests, so I guess we will see...

What exactly do you need progesterone for and could this lack of progesterone be the reason I hardly ever get cramps or sore boobs right before my period?

June 16, 2008

U can O after CD 18. Sometime u do spot midcycle, still O.

I thnk ur Dr needs to evaluate more than blood tests for ovulation issues coz such freq bleeding is not normal..only if u O progesterone is produced..Since ur blood tests indicate no Ovulation, this cant be due to lack of progesterone inducing a period. A increaese in prog followed by a subsequent drop triggers a period..not sure if constant full cycle low pro can trigger a period..

Ive ovulated n never had sore bbs or PMS

June 16, 2008

Hi Wanna, I so agree with Hope. Usually your progestorne is tested on 7dpo when it is at it's peak. Anything below 5ml shows no ovulation. Yes you can ovulate after cd18. Dr. Q looks at cd20 as the cut off and that is the time to visit your dr and get a u/s done to see if you have any follices growing at that time. That will be up to you and your dr. to see what is the next step in that cycle. Like Hope said Progestorne is produced after ovulation.

So, did I screw things up by going on CD 18?

I thought I had started my period because that morning, it was a light flow, so I had the bloodwork done. Then, last night, it was back to a small amount of spotting again.

June 16, 2008

No, at least now you know that you didnt ovulate yet so you can try again in another week and see if you have ovulated yet.

June 16, 2008

Do you know when or if you ovulated?

Light flow is not af...full flow when you need pad and/or tampon.

June 16, 2008

it could also mean that you ovulated awhile ago and that you are now getting your period and thats why its so low?

June 16, 2008

I have ovulated as late as CD22 and this month I think I ovulated on CD43 (yesterday) I need a few more high temps to confirm it though. So, yes you can ovulate later than CD18

June 16, 2008

thats what i thot too with chels..u ovulated a while ago, but then counting 14 days backward, she Od on CD 2 which is highly unlikely, but may be possible..wanna start doing them OPKs from today to see how goes.

June 16, 2008

Chels and Hope I thought the same thing but on CD2 like Hope wrote very highly unlikely. Do the opk's that is the best to do esp with your history Wanna...big (((Hugs))) love

what if she just has a shorter LP? i know pretty rare to happen but never know - from what i have read on her posts i think she has mid-cycle spotting a lot?

Still, if she even had a 10 day LP she would have ovulated on day 8 which is pretty early too..... what about those few ladies that ovulate when they are on their period? Or is that something that doesnt really happen but people just say "it can" lol?

June 16, 2008

Anyone interestion point Chelsea...you just don't know unless you are tracking it that is the big issue on this situation....life does throw you some interesting stuff.

June 16, 2008

*interesting point...lol

June 16, 2008

Hey wanna, ask ur RE to start monitoring u like doing Ultrasounds to see when exactly u Ovulate. If ur insurance doenst cover this, start doing OPKs right from the day of ur period and see when exactly the spotting starts, taht way ull know ur LP.

June 16, 2008

I used to chart BBT and I only ovulated a couple times. Once my LP was 10 days and once it was 4-5 days.

I stopped doing BBT and started using OPK's. I used them for 3 entire cycles (throughout my period and straight through the whole cycle) and NEVER got a positive.

I don't know. Hopefully they will figure it out. I feel like I'm trying for something that will never happen... I know that's probably not true, but after almost 3 years, that's how I feel. I'm young (22) and I feel like this shouldn't be happening to me. I feel like it's a sign that I shouldn't be a mommy. Ugh. Sorry for the pity party ladies... I feel like crap today.

June 16, 2008

I think your progesterone is definitley an issue which can easily be fixed. Have they suggested any meds to help you ovulate, such as Clomid?

June 16, 2008

They haven't suggested anything yet. I have to wait for DH to do his SA before I can schedule an RE appointment. Hopefully by the end of the week.

June 16, 2008

I think you would definitely be a candidate for Clomid and progesterone supplements..that would at least give you chances of having some consistent cycles for a few months.

June 16, 2008

Yeah, I'd like to have a chance at SOMETHING new... LOL!

I have a friend who is going through this with me. We met at the fertility class a few weeks ago and she has already talked with the doctor who gave her the option right off the bat of injectibles or Clomid. She chose injectibles... she's pretty young and been trying for a little bit less time than me, so I'm hopeful things will be moving along here quickly.

June 16, 2008

Wanna theres nothing like 'not meant to be'. some of us just need extra help. If u havent ovulated when u did the OPKs the entiere cycle, then ur RE can fix this. doesnt sound like a progesterone issue considering u havent ovulated. May be clomid is not the right choice for u..something u may wanna talk abt with the Dr.

June 17, 2008

Wanna I agree with Hope progestorne doesn't have anything to do with ovulation it starts developing after ovulation. So you don't have a problem with progestorne. The issue is getting you to ovulate and that does mean getting the correct meds for you. Also I agree with Hope on getting help. Noone is perfect. The most important thing that you can do is get yourself educated on how this is done. With infertility issues it will be a challenge but you have just started on this mess. Look at my dh and I we are in our late 30's and just getting the answers because we have asked the questions don't listen to fake mess out there. Get the facts...it's on this site....all you have to do is do the research and ask the questions.

June 17, 2008

Thanks ladies.

Everything will be explained to me at the next appointment. I really would like to get this stuff over with because I have a feeling it's putting a lot of pressure on my DH. He's really been a crap shoot lately. I think he'll feel much better once it's done.

So, progesterone doesn't have anything to do with ovulation? It's just something that shows up after ovulation? How do they test to see if you are or are not ovulating?

June 17, 2008

I wish you the best....yes progestorne is the hormone that is produced after ovulation. It's not a concern before ovulation. Have you ever read the threads that Dr. Q made about ovulation? Knowledge is the power/key...lol.

June 17, 2008

your prog level rises right at ovulation and then sky rockets after ovulation so it doesnt make you ovulate. Estrogen is what makes the follies grow i believe and then the prog is released to keep a pregnancy.

They will do a day 3 test and a day 21 test and thats usually how they find out if you are ovulating and by your test it looks like either you ovulate really early, late or not at all.

If you have never seen a +OPK then you may not be ovulating. Strange thing is that you get AF so im confused too!

June 17, 2008

I will search for some previously answered questions on this subject... I got confused for a minute...

Thanks ladies!
