Progesterone and pregnancy

How exactly does progesterone help pregnancy other than sustain the uterine lining? How important is it during the end of the first trimester/beginning of the second tri?

This is a very controversial subject unless one is undergoing IVF, where Progesterone is essential since the body may not make enough given some of the particular medications that were used...Progesterone is the hormone that is essential to have during pregnancy, and shows that the fetus and mother are providing essential precursors to make...It does also sustain the uterine lining/environment because without this, then you would shed the pregnancy, hence how a miscarriage winds up passing...

The corpus luteum generally produces more than enough Progesterone in normal pregnancies and is usually a non-issue...Sometimes though, to make everyone feel better, we supplement Progesterone in the first trimester (at 10wks, the placenta makes more than enough) because it's safe, won't hurt, and can at best help a little...

I lost a pregnancy at 13w, so it sounds like it wasn't a progesterone issue,am i right? Is there any logic behind my dr. giving me progesterone supplements even though my prog. value at 14dpo was 53?

We do this alot just to be safe, even though you most likely would have been ok anyways..
