progesterone and ovulation

July 11, 2008

I've been trying to conceive for over 18 months now - I already have a 2 year old so I'm trying to understand whats going wrong this time.

I've been charting my BBT's for a few months now and have the temperature rise associated with ovulation and a progesterone blood test at 21 days also suggested I ovulated.

However I have tried ovulation (LH) detection kits several cycles between days 12-18 (31 day cycle) which always come up negative despite apparently following instrucions correctly.

Is it possible for me to produce progesterone and not have ovulated?

(I've heard of a condition where the ovum cannot break out of the follicle)

thanks so much for your advice.

Im sorry, I just refered to a previous post and here it is for you. You are right abt the condition where ovum cannot break out and still produce progesterone, but the Dr says its highly ulikely.

I still think you missed your ovulation by a day or 2.

Charley- Maybe you need to start the kit earlier.. I start my OPK on Cd 10.. + Usually Cd 11 or 12...

Also I find I get my + reading at night around 9pm.. I always test in the morning and again at night, I like to line the tests up in order to see their progession..

If you are unsure of Ovulation or the OPK is not showing you the surge, but you know you do Ovulate via Blood Work.. and temps.. then maybe try to have interocurse every other day form when your AF ends to when your next one might begin.. then all bases are covered!

great tip - I'm going to line my tests up (great for my bathroom chic!) to see progression and test at night as well, thanks Caryn

Yes & also you can test twice a day to make sure you don't miss your surge.

You ovulate around 14 days +/-2 days before ur next period. So, if your cycle is 31 days, you most likey ovulate between CD 17 and 19
