Physical Therapy- Issues/ Questions

September 26, 2008

Hi everyone!

I have a question and Id just like to hear your input...

I have been having hip pain since about 6 mos pregnant- Im assuming from laying on my sides at night- Im usually a stomach sleeper.

I also slipped (didnt fall, just tensed up and pulled my legs closed very fast to avoid falling) 3 weeks ago. When I did this, I partially tore a pelvic floor ligament- OUCH!

So I started PT yesterday- which I was hesitant about, but did anyway at the recommendation of the OB. She did some exercises and stretches, which now 3 weeks later are NOT too uncomfortable at all... I think the ligament is beginning to heal. Well during all of these stretches and exercises I was flat on my back on the PT table. She then had me sit up- WOAH, the room was spinning and I had a HORRIBLE headache instantly.. throbbing. ( I assumed it was because I was on my back so long?)

Well I left the appt- saying Id call to schedule a follow up as needed.. ( not needed in my opintion) and was still having the headache. I got throught the night and noticed I was having more and more BH than usual. NOT PAINFUL, and NOT with any consistency- and the baby is moving fine. I just rested, and this morning now that IM awake, still haev the headache and have had 3 BH in the last 2 hours?

Could this be from the PT, or am I just having one of those fun 3rd trimester days?

Docs and ladies, please share opinions etc!

Im thinking maybe I should drink a bunch of water today and take some tylenol to take the edge off....?

Hey Lori.......I'm not sure but my husband is a pT and I will see if this can happen from you session. I will let you know what I find out. In the mean time hugs and I hope you headache goes away! :)

Oh thanks Fran! That will be really helpful! I did take some tylenol, and Im drinking a lot of water, only 1 more BH since earlier... so I think it might have been a fluke? I dont know- I was flat on my back for a long time doing these stretches and exercises and then I sat up pretty quickly to do other exercises she was teaching me? NOT SURE? Thanks Fran!

Thanks Liane! I still have a slight headache, but the BH have stopped, thank goodness!

It was so strange, it was just as soon as I sat up from the PT table?

Hey Lori, Nick is going to get some stuff together for you when he gets home. Basically it will be ways to do the exercises without being on your back long and things like that. :)

Thank you Fran! Please thank him for me. I will message you my email... :)

Hey Lori...........I talked to NIck and he said to do the exercises that the PT gave you but do them in short spurt....like don't be on your back longer than 5 min periods. You may also me able to talk to you PT and have them modify the exercises so that you will do them on your side or standing. He said that the PT shoudl have known not to have you on your back longer than 5-8 min and not to let them do that again. He thought maybe the headache came from that but it shouldn't still be going on. Maybe that was just coinsidence. The dizziness def cam from that. :( Good luck sweetie and I hope you body starts to feel better soon!! :)
