PCOS after having children??

March 23, 2008

I am a 21 yr old mother of two. My husband and i have been TTC on and off for a while.

We have onlu just found out i have PCOS.

My question is, b4 i had my other children i never had this all levels were normal and fine. It has only been since i had my second child. During my pregnancy i was bed ridden and gained an extra 20kilos.

I know weight loss is a big factor but is it normal for this to occur after having children??? Ive had ultrasounds done around the time i was diagnosed but there were no visible cysts on my ovaries- this is all based on a blood test with abnormally high levels.

What to do??

Meggan from what I understand pcos is something that can happen at any time if you have had children or not. The good thing is from what I have read is that most people who have this how up later can reverse the effects by loosing weight and doing simple things like that. I know its easier said than done because I have a horrible time loosing weight. I need to loose 40lbs right now but just can not get my body to do it.

Your doc will probably want you on Clomid or Metformin or a fertility drug like that if you have been TTC for over a year.

Thanx, They did mention metaformin lasttime i was there but i have to wait until i get a period again fro them to start it which could be a long while off, i havent had one since november.

Im ok with taking medication its taking it in pill ofrm thats going to be hard for me- i have a really strong gag reflex.

Im already working on some weight loss but im not really loosing weight moreso just bulidong muscle and losing inches off my waist.

Meggan, Faye is right, Weight gain can trigger PCOS and that happened to me too. Once I lost the 35-40 lbs excess I got preggo. So, thats ur starting point, but if u want to speed up the process, u can take these medication and see how it goes. Good luck

Yes..Metformin can cause weight loss in some people, I think by controlling the apetitte. There are a few for whom it doesnt work that way. U cant use it as a primary weight loss drug.
