Why is it that when I mention PCOS a doctor immediately asks about diabetes. and why when I took a Glucose test GCT i think its called, all my doctor told me was the results were unexpected my sugar level kept going down.
Most, but not all, PCOS patients have some form of insulin resistance which predisposes them to diabetes. Some PCOS when examined, believe it or not, are already frank diabetics! The best way of determining diabetes and/or insulin resistance would be through a 75gm 2hr Glucose tolerance test. If your sugar levels kept on going down, chances are you're not a diabetic, and that you may only have insulin resistance.
Some PCOS patients will eventually develop diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc., and this can be controlled through diet, exercise, and diet along with needed medications
Thank you Dr. Q. I exercise all the time. when I was 18 I was told that I may never have children and was hurt for years, I was constantly at the doc office and my weight yo-yoed sometimes up to 20Lbs within three days. I have lost the battle I now weigh over 300Lbs but I still exercise everyday. I want to have children before I turn 30, I just turned 28, and I don't know how to tackle this process. Most of the doctors in my area look at me like I am a lost cause because they don't know much about PCOS. I even went so far as to stop shaving all body hair, incuding facial, for two weeks before an appointment to show them that something wasnt right with my body. They are sure I have multiple cysts on both ovaries. I just don't know what to do. Do you know of any decent physicians in the nashville tn area that know about PCOS?
I don't personally know of any, but you can look up an RE near you using this site, and once you visit, please rate them so that others can learn from your experiences. Good luck, and keep us posted
