PCOS

September 13, 2007

My partner and I have been trying to conceive for about a year, I have just been diagnosed with PCOS. I have been given Metformin and have been taking 3x 500mg a day for about 8 days now. Will Metformin increase my chances of falling pregnant and how long does the Metformin start to work, i still havent ovulated.

September 13, 2007

Hi Emma,

It usually takes 3 months for Metformin to take full effect and encourage you to search through this site to find accepted pregnancy rates with Metformin (8%) vs Clomid (22%) vs. Clomid+Metformin (27%)

K Lee - how long did it take Metformin and Clomid to work with you?

Emma - i am in same boat as you. TTC for 1 yr. Was on clomid 50mg for 3 months - no joy even though i ovulated twice. Now on Metformin and will start Clomid after 1st bleed.

Do you feel okay on Metformin - i feel sick and have tummy aches

Sorry only just read the post.

When I first started Metformin it gave me diarrhea but after a few days I was fine. I'm still taking at 2x a day (750mg) but still no change.

Emma talk to ur Dr abt combining other fertility meds like clomid with metformin. stand alone, it doesnt have that much success is what I have read here.

June 11, 2008

I have tried but they dont seem to listen. I will ask again once i have the HSG done. But my follow up app isn't til Jan 09.

June 11, 2008

ok, talk to ur Dr abt more aggressive treatment like injectible gonadotropins if clomid failed.

June 11, 2008

Emma are you in the uk?????

June 11, 2008

Thanks again Hope. Hope you and baby are doing well.

June 11, 2008

Hi Angel.

Yes i'm in the UK.

June 11, 2008

Hi dear I'm in the uk also and so feel your pain. NHS sucks big time...lol. What we did on both sides (dh and me) is that we have gone private. I know how the medical system is and they don't listen and really don't care. If you can go private it cost but so much better. Also there is another user Jia that is from the UK and she has PCOS and has some issues with the dr's and she lives in London. If you click on my pic and look at the ppl following my story you will see her pic it looks like a dead fish and message her and she will help you with dr's and stuff like that. Like I said I have gone private and the insurance hasn't really cost us much we don't deal with NHS anymore. Keep me posted ok

June 11, 2008

this is her link dear and let me know what happens...http://www.fertilityties.com/profile/jia

June 11, 2008

thanks Angel. We were looking into going private. where in the UK are you? Do you have to have health insurance (BUPA) or what ever its called?

June 11, 2008

yes we are close to Bath/Bristol...Yate and we have another company and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it....I will and let you know. Yes go private it is so much better and pls you have a better chance finding and changing dr's. Keep me posted ok and ***babydust***

June 11, 2008

oh ok i live in Wimbledon. With the private health care, do you ahve to pay for your treatment as soon as you have them or do they do some kind of payment scheme. Not really sure how it all works. Thanks for all your help.

June 11, 2008

Sorry I needed a shower (working out)...nope everything goes right to the insurance company and the payments are between the dr and the insurance company.

Before I forget isn't Hope the greatest. She knows so much and really understands PCOS.

June 11, 2008

OMG Angel im going to run away now :)

But had to chime in :) I love Jane Austin and for that, the city of Bath. That place cheered me up every time I was cranky!! U are lucky to live in the Mecca of English literature..Do u go there often Angela?

June 11, 2008

Yeah Hope is great, she always answers any questions I have. :). Where can I look for Private Health Care?

June 11, 2008

Yes I love Bath the place is about 20 mins away from me and we go on the motorbike and ride toward there often.

You are a true blessing not only for this site just as a friend...love you Hope now give me your lil one....lol

June 11, 2008

June 11, 2008

I went on-line then I had a broker I knew when I lived in the states and he helped me with stuff when I moved her and I had a list. I'm going to look for the thing and will send it to you. It's somewhere either in my paperwork file at home or on my private e-mail. I will get that for you!!!! This company is very nice and always helping us...plus we got dental with them. No problems with them at all. Let me try to find the infor for you and I will get it to you by tomorrow evening before tea...is that ok

June 11, 2008

nope she's mine you had enough time with her...lol

June 11, 2008

*I moved here...not her....

June 11, 2008

Yeah no problen at all. Thanks, I'm just looking at HSA.

June 11, 2008

I will. Plus the rates are not bad at all. Plus the clinics with private are so much better and it's not like the dark ages with NHS...lol

June 11, 2008

Just spoke to my partner about going private and he wants to wait till I ahve the HSG done and get the results back on that have his results. The doctor wanted him to give a sample to.

June 11, 2008

Hi dear! I so understand his feeling on that part. If you would like I can still get the infor to you and you can just sit on it for a while. Pls keep me posted ok and loved talking to others close to home and sending you loads of ***babydust*** and remember we are in the same boat and need the support no matter what. Now good think that Hope has PCOS and just had her lil angel in May so that is great hope from Hope...she is our angel on this site and so very blessed to have her...she is my Dr. H...lol

June 11, 2008

Yeah the info would be great so I can have a read and see how it all works. It must me hereditary as my mum had it. I ahve explained tthis to the doc and she conceived me on the 1st round of Clomid. Its just talking then ages. Once I ahve my HSG to you think they will give me clomid if my tubes are clear? or will I ahve to wait til Jan for my follow up app?

June 11, 2008

I will dear. There are so many factors that comes in to play with PCOS. Esp weight very important is keeping you BMI under 30 and just losing a few stone is very hard in PCOS but you can see a big difference and even PCOS going away with weight loss and the correct diet and excerise. Know I don't have PCOS but we have a male factor and my problem is my age 37. Also I'm currently trying to lose my weight but thank god it has not effective my ovulation.

They could give it too you if the tubes are clear. I would be very aggresive with them in a way and tell them it's your body and you want clomid now it make take a lil time for the correct doze to work. I would make sure that your dr montiors you via u/s and progestorne checks. You can start taking you temps and using opk's that is very helpful

June 11, 2008

Yeah i'm doing the BBT at the moment. The fertility doc said I needed to lose a bit of weight. my BMI was 29 and she wanted it at 25. I ahve to get down to 10.7. Its such hard work tho.

June 11, 2008

I know dear it is and when you get it down you will see a big big difference. With PCOS it is more differcult to lose the weight. I have read so much on different ways to lose weight with PCOS and I'm going to find the post for you and it could help you. Yes BBT is a good thing to use.

June 11, 2008
