PCOS

July 31, 2008

I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS through bloodwork and ultra sound. What happens next? We are wanting to have a baby too and not sure what steps I need to take.

I have PCOS as well, we are in an IUI program in order to time the exact time for ovulation. I guess with PCOS I wasn't ov every month. That explained the irregular periods. Anyway - I am taking puregon injections and will be having the IUI procedure in the next 3-5 days.

If you have a specialist for infertility they will know exactly what to do with PCOS - they may perscribe an drug to help with the cysts

I actually haven't gotten that far yet. I was diagnosed about two weeks ago and then had an ultrasound this past Friday to confirm. This whole situation is just confusing and emotionally. When were you diagnosed?

Aubrey:

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 or 17...don't remember exactly...I have been able to keep it under control for the past 13 or 14 yrs with birth control pills but when i got married to my beloved DH, we decided that we wanted a family. I am currently seeing a RE and he has started me off on 50mg of clomid with IUI.

From my understanding, there are some OBGYNs that will prescribe Clomid but that is the extent.

In my personal opinion (dealing with PCOS for more than a decade) I would suggest seeing a RE (fertility specialist). I know for me, I was not ovulating on my own. Once I got off the pills, I didn't get a visit from AF for 10 months. I am not sure how severe your PCOS is but I would see a RE for guidance. If Clomid doesn't work, then at least you will be assured that the RE has other tricks up his sleeves...besides, that's their specialty...

Hope this helped. Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Hey ladies....today I was thinking about what else I could ask for advice on. I have some symptoms of PCOS such as hair growth on my chin and cheeks, acne, and skin tags. Does anyone have ideas on how to rid myself of these problems? Do I need to see a Dermo or will the medication that my OB or Specialist put me on help to rid me of them? Thanks!

August 01, 2008

Well, for me, I was able to control acne and hair growth with birth control pills. Since I have been off the pills trying to conceive, acne and hair and skin tags relapsed. But if this is what i have to go through then so be it!

I would think that you have to deal with it just like me! Since I am TTC, I don't want to take in any more drugs than I already am.

Sorry I don't have more for you!!! I guess you could go see a derm. and see what they can do...and there is always laser hair removal!!! : ) I am going to get that one day!

My brother's girlfriend worked for a dermo and said laser hair removal works but is expensive. I haven't gone on medication yet because I was just diagnosed with PCOS but I was wondering if the normal medication for PCOS slows the hair growth and gets rid of the acne. I didn't know if I needed to take multiple medications or what actual works. We would also lke to conceive another child but I want to work on the PCOS first. I have one 5 year old son however I didn't have the PCOS at that time. We'll see what happens I guess...thanks for the info!

hey Aubrey I have PCOS and i know hair growth is a big problem for me too, but i learned how to dela with it. First of all i tried laiser hair removal it dosent work for us hair will grow back again and vey quick and you will end up spendng to much many so try some thing different for exampe waxing you can do it your self at home or go to salone and they will do it for you also the best is threading its midle easten way to remove hairs maybe you will be able to find some one who does it its the best.

but dont take any meds to lowe your hormones frome hair growth because if you will get pregnant it will effect the gender of your baby. GOOD luck and lots of baby dust to you.

Hi Emmi. Thanks for the info. In what way would medication to lower hormones affect the gender? I'm just courious because this is all new to me. So far, I've been plucking the hair but that is creating more acne. I've heard about threading but never tried it. Maybe I'll look into that.
