Paragard IUD Complications and Cysts

Is it normal for women to have ovarian cysts or severe pain resulting from Paragard IUD insertion?
I had the IUD, Paragard, inserted in April 08 and have had nothing but issues. The first 3 months I had ovarian cysts form and the 1st month the cyst actually ruptured and that was extremely painful for over a week. My doctor checked the IUD and said it is still in place so that isn't the problem.
I have had extreme pain in my side(s) and pelvic area every month since insertion. I stopped going to my doctor asking about the cysts because even though he confirmed them with a sonogram, he would only give me mild pain killers and send me home, citing it as bad luck and not as a result of the IUD but I have nbever had complications with cysts or pain until the IUD. I haven't been able to work out- especially weight lifting because it causes a horrible tearing pain across my lower abdomen and stabbing pains in my sides.
I am not referring to heavier periods or horrible cramping, although I have that too. My periods have been getting lighter and menstrual cramps a bit better but I am referring to pain when I am not on my period.
I want to have the IUD removed, as I think it is the problem. I am hoping this will cause all the symptoms to go away. Do you have any advice for me?

Yes, these sound like IUD side effects which are common..Consider the Mirena IUD which has much fewer side effects
