Pap smear

Dr Q,

I have scheduled my 1st IVF cycle next month. I had a pap smear exam 4 years ago with no problem. Do you think I should do another Pap smear before IVF? Today is my cycle day 18(we ttc this month by ourselves), I've heard the best time to do this is after period and before ovulation. Does it hurt if I got pregnant this month by doing pap smear on day 18?

You should definitely have a pap smear. I am surprised your RE did not require one. I do not feel like a pap smear would interfer with you TTC.

Hi Nimo,

Yes you should definitly get a pap smear. You should get one once a year. I dont think a pap interferes with ttc either. I would talk to your doctor about it before you start your ivf cycle. Best of luck to you sweetie!
