pain when emptying bladder

Dear doc,

I had a lap to remove unilateral hydrosalpinx and adhesion to other tube. Its one week now and I am back to normal. But when I empty my urinary bladder I feel pain at the end when bladder contracts. I am sure its from the bladder. What could be the reason for this? Its not unbearable but some heavy feeling and light pain.

Hi Melanie,

Unless it is something directly related to the lap, it sounds like it could be a urinary tract infection. This can be know for sure by doing a urine test at your doc but you can try to help it by drinking cranberry juice and lots of water. There may now be over the counter things at the pharmacy these days too. Hope you feel better soon.

It could be a UTI, but again, the bladder does get a little "bruised" from the procedure also...if burning urine then definately a UTI

Jenstar may I ask u the reason for ur IVF? I read that everything is fine with u like 28 day cycle, HSG clear and ur hubbys sperm count OK.

Melanie, I hope you are feeling better, UTIs can be painful!! Thanks so much for the BFP wishes. I have "unexplained" infertility which is pretty much that they can't find anything wrong but still not getting preggo. It can also be taking longer b/c I'm 36. I have been of off birth control for 14 months. We had two failed IUI's and my insurance only will pay for 3 treatments (actually they are only paying 50% now because I reached an specified amount but that is better than nothing!!! ) and it doesn't matter which it is- IUI or IVF. The chances are higher with IVF so we decided to go with that. So this is our last shot with help from insurance, so BFP please, please, please :O)
