Pain during pregnancy

I am 11 weeks pregnant, and the other day I had some sharp pains in the side of my stomach, they eventually went away after about an hour. I immediately lied down to rest, and they still continued, but then finally subsided. My husband’s opinion is merely that the uterus is increasing in size, and pushing other things out of the way, that this is what is causing the pains. I have had a sharp pain here and there when I moved or stood up from sitting, that kind of thing; but never continuous pains that lasted an hour. Any thoughts? I am just so afraid of another miscarriage and that might have been a sign.
