Pain after clomid use
June 16, 2008
Hello. I am on my first month of clomid 100mg day 5-10. I forgot so took it days 6-11......had intercourse on days 13,16 in morning, and 18 on morning. I'm currently on cycle day 20. On cd 16 and 18 it was painful having sex.....very painful on cd 16. Does that mean I probably ovulated then? I have had pains that are subsiding, but still there. Is this a good sign? My doctor did not schedule follow-ups and I have not been diagnosed with any problems.......just am 34 and have been trying for 3 years with no success.

it wasnt pain where penetration was occuring.....I was already having some pain (like where my ovaries are...not constant but short sharp pains).....then its like sex agitated it....alot. Like I said.....the next time we had sex, it was much better, but still felt.....and now...we arent having sex, but I still feel slight hints of it ......its on my sides...mostly my right side, but sometimes a little on my left. Is this just a side effect of clomid?
Thanks for sharing your experiences! We'll I dont have any pain at all today. In a way, I like the pain somewhat, just b/c it makes me feel like the clomid is really doing something. I'm on cd 21......I didnt check for ovulation this month, just tried to time it right.....but I always ovulated in the past, so we'll see. I REALLY dont want to go to a RE b/c of money. I just dont think I can squeeze out that much......and even still it is very inconvenient, the nearest one will be at least an hour away (thats what the ob/gyn told me). I live in a small coastal town.
i have that same problem. Except this is my third round of clomid. I havent been seen the doc either because like you said.... it cost's alot! Since i've been taking the clomid... when i wake up in the morning my stomach hurts really bad, and sometimes i throw up. Idk what it is lol but i dont like it.
Hi Caroline,
I am on third round of clomid at 50mg. I definately am more aware of the time of ovulation, I get sharp cramping pains in lower abdomen on the sides. The last 2 periods have been particularly painful too, I have never had any problems with my periods before. Your symptoms sound similar to mine. Good Luck. xx

Well, I'm happy to report that all of the sharp pains have completely gone away. In a way, I liked them b/c I could tell the clomid was doing something. I have been peeing a lot, its like I can't hold it....but I was having slight urination problems before, so I may be reading too much into it. I feel quezzy this morning....a little sick to my stomach. But I have bad nerves and may be making more into it. I am cd 22, would that be too early to show signs of pregnancy??? Jasmine and Suzi, thanks for sharing with me. It REALLY helps to know others are like me. So many have done way more than clomid. Let's cross our fingers for everyone! I'm thinking of testing friday on cd 24, do you think that's too early?
Update: Well, I'm cd 23. I was very optimistic yesterday.......and well today, not so much. My boyfriend and I went out last night and had a good time, but ended up in a fight by the end of the night (like always). This morning my hormones are jumpin like jumpin beans. I can't even talk straight. I have hormone imbalances generally about a week before I AF.....so it doesn't look like it's a good sign. I'm very discouraged. I know this is only my first round of clomid........but I don't know how people do this month after month. I feel like I just want to give up.
I know how you feel, I am on month 1 of clomid and still no O on CD22. But if you search this site and read the stories of the amazing, inspirational women who have persevered and eventually got the baby they hoped for, maybe you will gain some strength from that.
Also, worth remembering that early PG symptoms are apparently like AF symptoms, and if you are prone to hormonal imbalances, it could be that your symptoms are PG related??
I get really bad PMT and I know exactly how you feel, try to be strong, There is lots of support on this site. Good luck!

boo......thanks so much for your response....it really helped. Cd 24 now and last night I had what felt like cramps that I hadn't experienced since high school. I kept thinking my AF is coming, but it didnt. This morning, when I peed, they subsided somewhat.....so I think it was more that I needed to pee. I should AF cd 25-30...I'm regular, but not to the day.....I think I will go buy some tests today. Good luck to you too! I didn't check for ovulation this time....as I dont like the opk's.....they seem vague and I dont think I have an ovulation problem. Only thing that concerns me is some say they ovulate late on clomid.......so I hope I didnt stop bd'ing too soon.
update: bfn.....I'm only on cd 24 though. I bought 3 tests, so am going to wait until Wed and test again if AF doesnt come. I bought the kind that just say pregnant or not pregnant.......some say they see faint lines, so I'm not sure if I bought the right kind. I'm handling it better than I thought.
Hi Cowgirl, you're still in the game this month so keep positive, you probably ovulated around CD 16 if your cycle is 30 days long, give or take a couple of days, so you are prob only 8DPO which is very early to test. I don't think you're meant to test hpts until at least 12dpo, so def. a good idea to wait until Wednesday.
I have totally irregular cycles so I have been using OPK's this cycle to try to determine when we can stop BD'ing, I've been using them for almost two weeks now and still no positive OPK, I'm also temping and my chart is not telling me anything yet, so I am sticking with it and continuing to BD every day or two. I just don't think the clomid has worked for me this cycle. I'm on CD 23 now and still no O for me.
The faint lines on the hpts are from different brands, the one you have sounds better as there is nothing to mis-interpret when it spells it out for you!
So stay positive honey and keep me posted. I really hope this is your month. If not, maybe you should think about using OPK's next month and possibly charting temps so you know when to stop BDing?

thank you so much for your support. I have pretty regular cycles every 25-30 days.....although the last two months, one was 31 and another was 19. I bd on cd 13, 16, and 18...I wish I had did it again on the 20th, just in case........but at that time I didnt know clomid sometimes makes you ovulate late, that plus I took it days 6-11, b/c I forgot. If I get my AF, my boyfriend is going to get his SA and I already have a salive microscope and will try opk's next month.....I was just really hopeful b/c I don't have any diagnosed problems.....i feel slightly sick to my stomach today.....but it could just be my nerves.....but thank you for your responses, it helps me tremendously
You're welcome, and the great news for you is that you are ovulating once a month, with me, my cycles are 8 or so weeks long so I have a much longer wait for the next try. I thought the clomid would make me ovulate sooner, but it's not looking likely at the moment!
Trying to stay positive myself, too. It's tough, but we can do it! I so hope it's your month!!

Caroline...stay positive. It's hard to wait to test, but I agree with Boo. You may test too soon b/c you are not quite sure when you ovulated.
I used OPK's this month and finally got a positive result on CD18. That's not far from when I ovulated on cycles without clomid. Keep your chin up and just know that we are all hoping for the best.

Hi everyone. I hope the best for everyone! I think anyone that goes through any of this from one month to several years ....deserves a baby. Going through ttc is a lot harder than I imagined. I'm waiting until Wed......still no AF although I do have cramping in my abdomen.......have for several days, started screaming some last night......but most of the time its just slightly uncomfortable. It makes me think my AF is coming, but then it doesn't......so maybe the cramping is from the clomid in my body. I'm still getting queezy at times, and feels like I want to throw up.....but I havent. PLEEEEASE let this be my month......I DO NOT want to take clomid again...next month might be my last try...b/c after that I have to teach high school and I cannot be on my best game with clomid in my body. Boo......i hope you ovulate soon.....you seem a lot more together than I. and trying I wish you the best and hope your time is soon as well! Thanks for the support gals! :)
Thanks for the encouraging comments! This weekend has been tough. I had to go to a wedding where it seemed every woman was pregnant....including the bride! I feel guilty that I had some drinks...but it did help me relax and I didnt feel the cramps for a while. Well, just to update...I'm on cd 26 on Sunday night. Still expecting AF on Tuesday. Cramping has been less today...only bad thing was the boyfriend and I went to Wal-mart and I felt very queezy walking around. Hoping that's a good sign. I'm going to do my best not to test again until Wednesday morning. I'm spending all day tomorrow with my boyfriend's neice to help keep my mind off of everything, so that should help. Enough about me....BOO....congrats on the OPK +.....if you need to vent during the 2ww, I'm your gal!........and babyque...i'd love to know how many months were you on clomid? what dose? what days? how far along are you? and CONGRATS! :).....TRYING: where are you in this crazy ttc process? HOpe everyone had a great weekend!
