The test line measures LH which is always present in your body. During ovulation the LH surges and gives a dark test line that matches in color with the control line thats what you should note. THis sure is sudden and not gradual. So, dont worry abt ur lines getting lighter. Keep testing until you get a +. For reference, one ovulates 14 days before next period start date +/- 2 days.

I take the clear blue easy digital tests - cuts out the guess work - puts a smiley face on the screen when your LH surge arrives. total no brainer. i test twice a day too so i get the start of it. you should try them, so much easier.
