ovulation question/epo

August 01, 2008

This question is for a Dr or anyone who has an answer....i was taking evening primrose oil for pms and to also help with CM..it worked great- loved taking it except i noticed that when i was taking it i was ovulating so much later around 18 to 20 days...this month i decided to not take it at all and see i if i ovulate my usual 14 days and i did. Does that make sense? is it possible? i was only taking up to 1500mg a day during AF and up to ovulation. I just hate oing so late because it makes my cycle 36 days instead of 30.

Hi girley,

There isn't any data or findings out there to suggest what you're saying is true, and can't comment on this..

You can consider either stopping or continuing the Primrose

ok, this is what I think, Im no Dr and since no ones responded, Ill see if I can try reasoning that out.

EPO is taken for the CM. IN a normal cycle, Estrogen increase is what causes the stretchy EWCM. and this happens a few days before ovulation. So, EPO does contain estrogenic properties. In an anovulatory cycle, there is increased estrogen. Thats probably whats causing delayed ovulation and once u stop it, ur back to normal.

Anyone any opinions?

Dr Q Oops jumped the gun..by 2 seconds. But does the logic sound reasonable. I know theres no proof so theres no definative answer though.

Sounds very much reasonable :D

sounds right to me too...i am going one more cycle without taking epo to see if i still ovulate around cd 14 or so rather than 18 or 20....than that will confirm for sure but so far i feel the epo delayed my ovulationg...its not a bad thing..it helped with CM but i questioned why all of a sudden my cycles were so much longer and i think its because of that..thanks!
