Ovulation

My doctor recommends i take provera because i have irregular periods, he says i should take it on the first day of my period for ten days, but how will i know when i ovulate? and would this prevent me from getting pregnant in any way? I await your advice
Hi Caren, firstly, if you are TTC and have irregular periods, provera will not help u get preggo. It simply brings abt a dummy period every month. U get a true natural period only if u ovulate. Since u are taking provera, it means u aint ovulating. To get preggo u need to ovulate. So, talk to ur Dr abt getting on other pills like Clomid, Femara etc especially since u have PCOS. U cant go by the signs of mucous and ovulatory pain. Only an OPK or an Ultrasound will tell if u are ovulating. Sometimes u can msitake other pains for ovulatory symptoms.
Next question is if you say you are taking Provera on the 1st day of ur period, then I dont think u shud be doing that, u need to talk to ur Dr abt it. Usually its taken when one doesnt get a period for a while or it is taken after confirmed ovulation to support a possible pregnancy. It shudnt be taken on Day 1 of the period.
If you have one blocked tube, then best is to get on meds that can help u super ovulate on the other side which is not blocked so that u can still get preggo naturally. There is hope.
Mostly alternate ovaries, but as u grow older typically over 30, one ovary does get dominant and u may consistantly ovulate on one side or ovulate frequently on one side than the other. Not all do, but it does happen.
If both ovaries ovulate which can happen, both get released and thats one reason why you can have twins. But how the body works is, the pituitary gland selects just one follicle to mature each month. Women on fertility meds ovulate on both sides sometimes.

Thank you so much Hope N but actually i did went back to my Dr. and i had how to take the provera mixed up, it was suppose to be the first day of the month not AF so i cleared that up, however am not taking provera anymore cause i do get af not sure y he gave me provera i think its controls the latter half of the cycle due to the pcos my cycles were a bit long so provera is to give me regular 28 cycle. Currently i just finish clomid and now doing opk for the big O and bding every other day so lets see what happens, actually u made it so much easier to understand, Thanks sweetie

If you're missing your periods, then there's a likelihood you're not ovulating......After your last pill of Provera, you should get a period about 3-5 days afterwards...But if you're not ovulating, this won't help...what may help would be taking clomid or other ovulation products..
Good luck, and keep us posted..
