Ovidrel vs. HCG
This is my first Clomid/IUI cycle. I have no insurance coverage for fertility meds. The RE wanted me to order the HCG IM shot but I wanted the Ovidrel Sub Q shot. I asked the difference and they said Ovidrel was only for those stimmed with Gonal F. Is there really a reason I didn't get the Sub Q shot? I didn't understand the difference or their explanation.

For ease of use and less pain, I'd choose a subQ shot in a heartbeat!
Ovidrel is very very easy and your doc is not correct about Ovidrel being only for Gonal F. I took it with Clomid and many other ladies here have taken it with other meds as well.
Ovidrel is a synthetic hCG, vs Pregnyl being a natural hCG... if that makes a difference to you.

No it doesn't make a difference to me but I did want the sub q for comfort. I was required to order the 1 1/2' needle so I have to do it IM. I just didn't understand why I couldn't order the Ovidrel instead. Oh well...maybe I will ask again. Would there be any reason my doc would want me to take it IM? Body weight/type maybe?

Ovidrel also has about 6,500IU of hCG, whereas the generic has 10,000IU.. Clinically, little difference between either
