over-replaced thyroid

July 18, 2008

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism several yeasr ago and prescribed Armour thyroid.

Two months ago my new endo (not an RE) switched me to Levoxyl even though my TSH and T4 levels were normal and I felt fine on the Armour because she says that "nobody" takes Armour anymore.

Now bloodwork done this week shows that on the Levoxyl my TSH os 0.1 and T4 is 2.7 - both which I understand to indicate that I am now over-replacing my thyroid. My Endo is cutting back the amount of Levoxyl I take, but I just finished a round of Clomid (prescribed by my OB to treat PCOS) today and now I am wondering if I should A)go back to the dose of Armour that was working fine before the endo started mucking about and/or B)not TTC after all this cycle because my hypothyroidism is no longer under control.

This is so frustrating!

Hi Minn,

It takes about 6wks for your body to react to any change in thyroid medication, so going back doesn't make much sense either for the immediate time...

Continuing with your doc's recommendation is always best, inform your Ob about the thyroid issue to see if he/she wishes to do about ttc...Some may not advocate you ttc until thyroid is under control, while others since it's just above the borderline value, may let you proceed
