Over 40 and trying IUI. Any experience to share?

Hey Ladies. I am new to FT and I love it! The last few days I have been reading up on lots of posts regarding fertility issues.

First of all, let me give hope to all those 35+ ttc. I got pregnant with my first when I was 40. It ended in miscarriage but within 2 months I was pregnant again and had an awesome baby girl who is now 20 months. We have been trying for #2 and are having difficulty. We went to see a RE and I did the clomid challenge and all of my levels came back good. They also did an ultrasound and saw I had 5 follicles in each ovary. Again, according to the doc, a good sign.

So I think we will try IUI. I would appreciate any past experience, good or not so good. Thanks a bunch!

Hi KateBee,

Your ovarian reserve is very good, I've had a few pregnancies like this in over 40, but if not pregnant quickly with good ovarian stimulation/IUI, then IVF should be a strong consideration

I'm in the same boat! I've had 4 MC's over the last 3 years so went to an RE. I did 3 cycles of Gonal-f and had nice big follicles every time but unfortunately no pg which was SO incredibly frustrating since I knew exactly when I OV'd and Bd'd at the right time (hubby has no sperm issues). I'm doing an IUI next month and then IVF the next if the IUI doesn't work. My insurance doesn't pay for the IVF though so that's a major bummer. I'm currently doing a round of Clomid and using the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor. I did the Clomid/CBFM last month also but no luck! Since I was able to get pg fairly easy a couple of years ago, I'm assuming my age is my enemy now and that's tough to accept but I'm not going to give up quite yet. :)

Melstar, keep me posted on your progress. It must be frustrating with your 4 MCs. Uugghhh. My insurance doesn't cover either IUI nor IVF. So we will try IUI and then decide what next. I used the CFEFM to get pg the first time and have been using it this go round as well - but still no luck. I agree that age is our enemy but we can't give up. Keep the faith!

Hi His B. My fsh level on cd3 was 7 and on cd10 it was 5.9. According to the doc, fsh of 10 and under is "good".

I am new into this cycle so it will be about a month before we do the IUI. What's your story His B? How long ttc and why no pg yet?

FSH 18 and Estrogen 15 both my tubes are blocked...your levels are great my only hope. I Have been trying ttc for 2 years...I have children form my first marriage none from my dh and he has none at all. I may have waited to long...I have been down about it re says only 3% chance to get a bfp...IVF is my best choice for a higher % I have 3 children 24,20,8

HB I can understand your disappointment and I'm sorry that your down. Such big decisions with such low odds. Yes, I think ivf would give you better odds but they are still low for those of us over 40. I personally find it so hard to believe that even though we may be in good health and feel younger than our age, that conceiving a child is so difficult. Keep the faith HB, keep the faith.
