OPK tests and follicles

Woman_7

October 09, 2007

I had an ultrasound to check my follicles (my third month with clomid) and i had just one dominant follicle (9 small ones) which was 13cm on day 11(friday)..so i was asked to come in again on day 14 (monday). on day 14 it measured 16, so the doctor said i could take my ovidrel shot on day 16(wednesday) and i would have the IUI on day 18(friday). i have also been asked to check OPK tests. So on day 14(yesterday)..i had a pretty decent positive on my test which i thought would get darker today..but somehow the line seems to be getting more and more faint..i cannot understand how to interpret this result..pls help!

is it a good idea to try the IUI this month or do you think it will be a waste? My RE is thinking of increasing my dose of clomid..do u think I should try IUI after that?

Hi Marusha,

I would contact your doc who can get blood work on your LH level, and if you indeed did have a surge, then an IUI can still be done. Good luck, and keep us posted...

Dr.Q, I was wondering if its normal to have a positive opk so late?? also we were too tired to BD after my ovidrel shot..how imp is it to do that? and can we BD today (IUI is scheduled for tomm)

Hi Marusha,

Your Ovidrel shot will make you ovulate and IUI will have you covered. Ovulation is funny in that it can occur whenever, and one doesn't know unless you're following the follicle growth via ultrasound, and usually if you're opk turns positive, it almost doesn't always matter how late it is to be ok, so long as we don't go through several months without ovulation..for tomorrow...

well I ovulate naturally every month, can stopping ovidrel change that? like you suggested I will be doing an IUI just couple times more and then wait till i decide to go ahead with IVF/ICSI.

All my bloodwork too has come within normal limits, my tubes are clear and no apparent signs of endometriosis.

can sperm motility make so much difference that its taking me so long to get pregnant? (my husbands motility is 38%)

Hi Marusha,

Stopping ovidrel won't change anything and you'll still keep on ovulating and it appears there's unexplained infertility...In terms of sperm, check through the site for the math and so long as he has greater than 10Million total motile sperm, it's more than Ok.
