opk

June 06, 2008

Hi, newbie here,

my cycles for the last 2 months have been 27 days. Last month I used an opk (answer) with my second pee at 7am and got a distinct positive, bd'd like crazy for 5 days, however was taking antihistamines to help me sleep...could that have affected anything? We got pregnant on the first try with our 20 month old. .

Using fertility charts it says I should ovulate around day 13, however like I said I got a positive opk the early morning of cd 10.... what to do? I also suffer from stress, so don't know if I could end up ovulating later..I am charting my temps and symptoms, however am not managing to take my temps at the same time as my baby has been teething and waking up at different times so they range between 4.45am and 6am...any advice please, am going a little nuts :) I checked my cervix (we are on cd7 and it seems high, moist, soft and openish, but sticky white cervical mucous (sorry about the graphic description - but needs must :) )

Any advice would be great - thanks and good luck to all!!

Welcome to FertilityTies Sarah!!!

Usually once your first OPK turns positive, not necessary to check thereafter as false positives do occur then...After 1st +OPK, BD that night and stop checking...

The norm for most people is that it usually takes more than one try to achieve a pregnancy...

Fertility Charts/Calendars are usually no where near accurate unless your period always arrive as expected...Along with checking cervix, something that is also far from accurate and difficult to tell differences...this test is far from accepted by all fertility doctors/experts...

Good luck, and keep us posted...

Just one more question.....if the opk was positive on day 10, I guess that would mean that ovulation could occur 12-24 hours later..however I took the test early morning, could I have ovulated (or got positive opk) on cd 9, in which case I should start testing on cd9 this cycle. Also, can stress make me ovulate later, I am trying to relax and start meditating to help with my stress levels....I hope this makes sense, not much sleep with a teething toddler!!

Many Thanks

Sarah
