Okay, So How about the Donor Subject?

June 26, 2007

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced going through an egg or sperm donor? I think we're going to end up gong that way and wondering what you all think?

Pavia, at the moment mypartner and I are just about to undergo testing to see whether or not we have to consider IVF as my partner has azoospermia. In the UK, IVF costs thousands of £'s which we would not be able to afford so have looked into me donating some of my eggs to get the IVF a bit cheaper.

I am using a known donor(and close friend) who looks a lot like my partner. Fresh sperm is usually more viable than frozen. However our donor can often be difficult to rely on- and is therefore a source of stress-but is also free. (It can also be an issue if you have to transport the fresh sperm over long distances)

Frozen sperm can be ordered and thawed at your leisure- but at a price. The price can vary a lot depending on what sperm bank you use- and how much information about the donor you want.

I know little about the cost of using donor eggs- but I assume the cost is higher for that kind of procedure.

If you do IVF they can extract your egg, and inject a single sperm into the egg, and then place that embryo into your uterus. Though this is quite costly.

Hope this helps.
