Numbed from my face down during C-Section
during my first c-section i was told I would be numbed from the chest down. However, I was numbed from my face down I couldn't feel my whole body and I kept feeling like I had to swallow and couldn't and it freaked me out. I have to have a c-section again this time and I am worried it will happen again. I also got very sick once my son was born and he and my husband left the room I started to throw up and the nurse or somebody kept asking me if I could feel my fingers and so on. Is there a way I can make sure I don't get numbed that much again? Or what would cause that? I'm so nervous its going to happen again.

sporks--My sis had 2 c/s and 1st was numb nose down and freaked her out. The next planned c/s (didnt want a bvac due to risks) It went soooo much smoother. No labor and epidural just the planned and perfect c/s with no probs and ONLY numb from waist down. If your 1st was more a last minute thing then maybe that was the source of your problem. I think Megan is right--talk inadvance to the anestesiologist. It should be a planned c so they know who will be on schedule ahead of time. As for nausea--I threw up EVERY contraction from 5 cm on. They can give you phenergan or compazine or some others BUT be aware there are some known side effects ont he babby. NOT sure if so close to delivery is an issue thousgh so discuss ahead of time with your obgyn. GOOD LUCK!!!
thanks for your comments. My first c-section was planned as well. I have a meeting w/ my hospital in a few weeks to fill out all the paper work and everything so im not dealing w/ that when we arrive at the hospital I plan on bringing it up to them then hopefully I wont have the same experience this time around!

It sounds like your spinal go placed a little too high the last time. Was it a scheduled c-section or did they do it after your were laboring & use the epidural you already had in place? Often when they use an epidural it is much harder to control, although this can happen with a spinal as well. I would ask your OB to have you meet with the anesthesiologist prior to your surgery to discuss your concerns & then they can make sure they take any precautions needed to avoid you feeling this way again. Being sick to your stomach after delivery is VERY common & there isn't much that can be done to avoid this feeling. Sometimes anti-nausea meds can be given at the beginning of surgery to help ease the symptoms afterwards but it isn't always successful. I would just tell the anesthesiologist all of your concerns & I am sure they will be able to make things easier on you this time around! Good Luck.
