Need some advice on infertility money issues...ladies/dr q???

March 06, 2008

Ok, so we originally had $15,000 inf coverage. Now its down to $9500 left. This month we are doing injectables/clomid/iui and will use $3000 roughly for that. So..we had planned on moving to ivf right away. Which at my clinic is $15,000. So I need to come up with the other $9000 to do so. So...if you were in my shoes...unexplained secondary inf..had a chemical 5 months ago...would you do two more shots of minimal stimulation with iui...then pay all the $15,000 for ivf out of pocket if iui doesn't work...or would you move right to ivf next month and shell out the $9000?

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated...of course will be asking my doc next wk his thoughts. Does anyone know if clinics generally accept credit cards and / or payment plans? We have some of the $9000, but not all.

Hi Kelli, yes they do take credit cards and payment plans. Many of them deal with finance companies also. Plus you could talk with your bank or find a finance company. But I know they did. My dr in the states did. If I had the money I would give it to you...I'm going to get a lottery ticket and if I win I'll give you the money:))))

Awe, Angela...you are the sweetest...don't think I could take it from you :) LOL....just trying to decide what to do if this cycle doesn't pan out...thanks!

March 06, 2008

your welcome but I would. It is a hard thing to decide. The dh and I are doing the same thing also. I have really putting preggo in the back of my mind and just trying to get him health.

What are your %'s of getting preggo with what you are about to do with these shots???? What are your %'s of getting preggo doing IVF????

March 06, 2008

I would go right to IVF, that has the most success rates... maybe this month will be it and you wont have to stress over it anymore!!

Praying for you Kelli! Good luck!

30 % with iui....60 % with ivf

March 06, 2008

Thanks Lori...I truly appreciate your advice!

March 06, 2008

Ok Kelli I'm a numbers person. So you have done the IUI and had a chemical and still have a 30%. You have been doing IUI and double IUI. However with 60% with IVF and you haven't tried it. Looking at these numbers and thinking what you have been doing go with IVF....

March 06, 2008

i'd go right to the IVF and see what happens - im sure this IUI with injectables will work for you so you wont need to go thru the IVF afterall!

March 06, 2008

Angela..yes we did dbl iui a few times..but that was with my ob and wasn't monitored well. They did no ultrasound or hcg shot..so my re thinks that he can do a better job w/ monitoring it better.

Thanks, ladies..its a tough decision. Dh wants to try all 3 cycles of iui..but we need to see what the doc says next wk. I just don't want to waste the infertility $....

Sweetie it is your and the dh's decision. My heart goes out to you and I support you 100%. This is hard to matter what. I'm here for you and I know you are here for me. Money is a concern and plus making the right decision. I understand how you feel we are dealing with it also. You are in my prayers and sending you ***babydust***

*no matter what...

March 06, 2008

Thanks, Angela. Of course I am here for you too...always!! :-) Yes, this money issue is a huge decision. This really sucks..my son was FREE..haha....

March 06, 2008

lol...love you dear...I wish it could be easier for you...you are such a wonderful and lovely person. I like the idea of going to BK or some place and just ordering them I'll take the #1 with a baby on the side:))))

March 06, 2008

Haha..omg wouldn't that be nice! 1 baby please..no diareha...or spit ups! One extra cute little tushy!!!

March 06, 2008

yes it would...I wish it could be that easy....no colic also...

March 06, 2008

I think I would go straight onto IVF!!! You odds are better that way!

March 06, 2008

Ok, thanks to all of you for your thoughts! So you are all saying go ivf.... that is what I'm leaning toward as well.....

Does anyone else have any thoughts??

March 06, 2008

Ok, so now I'm reading on the website of my ivf clinic (we are using a satelite dr. and only going to the actual clinic for retreival & transfer)...anyways..they have a $ back warranty program. You get a portion..I thought my doc said almost 50% back if you don't get pregnant. BUT that is only good if you aren't submitting to insurance.

So, back to the drawing board.....

March 06, 2008

Hey, Chelsea..doesn't your clinic keep doing transfers for the base price if you don't get prego?? I thought they did that if you had enough embryos to freeze? I wish my clinic did that instead of refunding 50%....
