My Journey continues....

November 10, 2008

My journey continues with my first appt with the RE today at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I wasn't overly thrilled. Not disappointed, but not overly thrilled either.

We got to the clinic at 1pm and after tons of paperwork, we finally saw the dr. It wasn't the dr. that we thought we were seeing - rather a dr that works with Dr. Jansen. He began to talk with us like HE was our dr. - all very confusing. Then he said he was going to talk to Dr. Jansen - about 10 min later both him and Dr. Jansen come and and the rest of our appt was dh, myself, and two dr's. One wasn't training or anything, they are both full doctors. It was a little strange.

Then we started to discuss what was going to happen next. They want to give me an HSG and both DH and I are to be tested for chromosomal abnormalities. I also have to do a few other blood tests to test for clotting, etc. The Dr. wants me to go on progesterone when we start trying again and continue on 1 baby asprin daily when we begin TTC again.

So then we went down to lab but had to stop off at the financial office to discuss insurance - where we learned that we need to have written approval from our insurance company for any of these tests prior to doing them - so that will take up to 30 days:( So we were SUPPOSED to get the blood tests and instead we just got out approval faxed to the insurance company.

I still havent gotten a period since my last miscarriage (just over 4 weeks ago) but as soon as I get that hopefully my approvals will have gone through and I can get the HSG done. Grrrr - I absolutely hate all of this.

The dr.'s were nice though. They said that we are not the typical patient as dh and I have had no problem GETTING pregnant - but rather STAYING pregnant.

Hopefully we will get some answers soon.

awww, holly, this process is so hard!

The baby aspirin and the prog are such a great idea, esp since you get preggo just dont stay preggo!

You may have something so simple as the clotting disorder adn the baby aspirin will solve that! WOuldnt that be great?!?!?!

I hope that your ins doesnt take that long so that you can get tested right away. The HSG sucked for me but it is over quickly and was able to say that my tubes were not blocked.

We also had chromosomal testing done after our 2nd m/c to see if it would continue to happen and we were a-ok.

I got AF abotu 6 weeks after both of the m/c's, usually that is about the time you get it with ovulation about 4 weeks after an early m/c.

I actullay got preggo the month we met with the RE so maybe you will too :)

Thanks - but i was on baby asprin last time too and it did nothing:( But i will do it again next time.

i think we are going to wait at least 6 months to a year to try again. I have too much of a broken heart at this point to even think about trying again.

Holly,

I forget about this thing here! *LOL* Been wondering how your appt went and sent you a PM too...and I rememebered to click to here.....

Sounds like a decent enough appt...sucks that you have to wait for approval, though!

Why are they doing the HSG if you are getting pregnant? Thought that was to check for blockages? Good to test everything, I guess :) Better than not doing anything at all!!!

I'm giving consideration to seeing a RE, for medication reasons only. We'll see.

Take care and keep us allllll posted on what goes on!!! Hope everything turns out great and you get pregnant when you return to TTC and the progesterone will help you carry full term!! *S*

I FINALLY got AF since my m/c on Oct 9th. I thought I would get it today or tomorrow as I am fairly sure I ovulated 14 days ago. (according to my cm).

I have an appt for an HSG next Friday and I am REALLY nervous. They know my tubes are open, but they are looking at my uturus to see if i have a septum. If I do, its likely that the babies are implanting on the septum and they arent getting the nurtients needed to survive. Thus the reason for the multiple miscarriages and why I never get past 5 weeks. They think its unlikely though.

However, if I do have a septum, then they would schedule me for surgery to have it removed. :( Booo - I hate all of this.

Thanks Fran - but we wont be falling pregnant too quickly. I am still so so sad and angry about the other miscarriages that I just dont think either dh or myself is ready for another one. We are going to wait awhile...I think. At least that has how I have been feeling. Hopefuly the new clinic can help us out!!!
