My husbands semen analysis came back abnormal
August 05, 2008
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help as I'm pretty discouraged right now. My husband and I have two boys. We conceived on our own. My first was a surprise, unplanned. The second was after a year of trying, went to a fertility clinic they said my husband had abnormal analysis and anti-bodies. Said we would need ICSI and put me on fertility drugs for this procedure, was cancelled as I had a risk to the hyperstimulation of ovaries (too many follicles?) and a month later we found out we were pregnant on our own. So, here we are wanting to conceive our third child in hopes of a girl (we have two boys) and had an analysis done for husband with obgyn and they came back said very abnormal sample. Where do we go from here? So confused and we don't have the money for high cost procedures and high end fertility drugs. My boys are 5 years apart. We wanted to have our third closer in age to our second. Any advice would be helpful. thank you
I'm not real sure but I'm obgyn said it was a bad sample. Whatever that meant! Well, first of my darling husband didn't tell until today that he masterbated the morning a few hours I guess before he did the analysis for me to take! Aren't men great! Just kidding! Then, I took the sample to quest diagnostics within an hour but they now tell me they like it there within a half hour. So, I demanded the doctor write a new script for a new analysis. I don't know if those two factors came into play or not on the results of that test. I didn't understand everything he said was wrong but he said it wasn't a good test. Now, I do know my husband has a left testicle that hangs lower than the right. I'm not sure if that means anything. I'm laughing as I'm all of this! I was hoping a doctor would reading this too, do they respond as well? Thanks for listening!
Sounds like DH needs to do another test now if you ask me... if he did ejaculate just prior to getting another sample, its not accurate. I know when DH did his SA they recommended no ejaculation for 3 days prior just to get the most accurate amount possible. Id say do another one, have him abstain for a bit and then return it to the lab ASAP :)
Good luck and let us know. I wouldnt be too discouraged, it sounds like there are other factors here...

Angel if he did his sa a few hours before the sa was brought to the lab yes his results will be bad. Sperm does start lowering very fast after the sample is placed in the cup. So it needs to be at the lab withing a 30 to 45 min period...some say 1 hr mark the lastest. So he would need to get it done again. That is normal for one testicle to be lower than the other one. So this test that he did is null in void and another one needs to be done again and be returned to the lab within the 1 hr that the sample has be done.
Angel this is what you are looking for with good sa results but with what I'm reading that these results are not good and your dh will need to retest again.
