My DH needs your prayers!!!! Please PRAY!!

September 02, 2008

My DH really needs your prayers-My MIL had a very serious car accident last Monday & thru the course of tracking down her medical info for the ICU docs we discovered that she has a very rare Mitochondrial disease called Kearn-Sayre Syndrome which is a degenerative neuromuscular disease that often ends in heart block & death. The life expectancy of these patients is short-usually do not live past their forties :(

There is a very high probability that my DH has this disease also. It often begins with the muscles of the eyelids deteriorating & he has already been diagnosed with the same type of eye problems as his mom. He has NOT been diagnosed with the mitochondrial disease yet. We were not aware of this even being a possibility until last week!

Needless to say we are in a state of shock & just trying to take things one step at a time. Please keep us-especially my DH in your prayers. I don't really know what I would do without him...

You guys are in my prayers and praying that everything turns out fine, as im the same way, I couldnt imagine life without my DH, I think about it at random times, and well I quickly have to think about something else.

Def see a doctor as soon as possible so you can get ahead of the game on this.

Loads of happy ending prayers sweetie!!

Thinking of you and praying for both your MIL and Dh

September 02, 2008

Many thanks Jolene :) MIL is doing better & DH has requested that we get her home from the hospital (hopefully later this week) & then we will start trying to get things moving on getting him checked & also in getting MIL the proper care as she has either ignored this diagnosis or was misinformed about the seriousness of it.

September 02, 2008

So sorry WendyLou..I will keep you,Dh and your MIL in my prayers.May God keep a healing hand on your Dh and hope that your MIL fights this disease and beats it.((HUGS))

Thanks Ladies :) My DH is really not dealing with all of this very well, so your prayers are really appreciated & needed. I am getting him an apt for a physical next week just to calm his nerves a bit. He has asked me to do that but is resistant to talking about the possibility of the disease. He is open to seeing the specialist but wants to wait until after his mom is out of the hospital. I hope when some of the shock wears off then it will be easier to deal with.

I too am thinking that if we don't have a baby soon, we will never get the chance. My DH's Mom and Dad both have heart problems. Which means he has a higher risk of heart problems as well. I found out today that he also has a "lump" on his stomach that his dr. wants checked out. The dr.'s office called and asked when he wanted his follow up appt. to get that checked. Apparently he cancelled his last appt. (because if there is no diagnosis, there is no problems). MEN!!!! I knew he went in for a physical for his work, but I had no clue they were concerned. He is about 150 lbs. overweight, but the nurse said part of it is his "lump". Who knows how much it weighs! She said that u can only see part of it (or the "tip of the iceberg") It could be a lot bigger than it looks! So now I am really scared! The "lump" appeared about 2 years ago as a small little bump. We thought it was scar tissue from his surgery. He had an umbilical cord hernia removed about 5 or 6 years ago. Since then it has grown quite a bit. The part you can see is a little bigger than a softball. Not quite dinner plate size.

So, yes, I know what u r going thru, and will pray for him and add him to the prayer list @ church. ((HUGS)) and prayers for you and everyone else going thru a hard time!

Thanks Ladies! We are dealing. MIL has been released from the hospital & needs in home care for a bit, but is doing better. She has a follow up apt with a specialist in 2 wks to discuss the Kearn Sayer Syndrom & DH & I are going with her. Hopefully we will get some more info & also be able to make an apt to get DH checked.

Thanks again for all of the prayers & supprot & I will keep you posted.

DC9, hope all goes well with your DH's follow up. What is his name & where are you located? I will add him to the prayer list at our church as well & thanks again! My DH is Delane Smith & we are from Birmingham, Alabama :)

Wish I had a better answer for you but I'd just keep nagging him. My DH hardly ever goes tothe DR-he says they will always find something wrong with you, even when there isn't anything, lol! This is the 1st time since I have known him that he has voluntarily went to the Dr. Otherwise I just keep on & on & on till he gives in. Maybe tell your DH that him going to the Dr will ease YOUR mind even if he is not concerned.

PS, sorry it took so long to answer but we are going none stop taking care of his mom & this is the 1st I have been on the computer in days.

Ok, so DH went to Dr., and the dr. said it is a hernia. He was too fat the last time he had the surgery, so it didn't work. He is even bigger now! I don't know what to do! He has tried EVERY diet out there! Anyone have any clues to help? He went on Atkins diet, and lost 15 lbs. in 2 months, then started having liver, gallbladder and kidney problems. He only has one kidney, so he has to be careful. He loses an average of 10 lbs. with every diet, then stops. He doesn't eat much junk food. I make his b-fast, lunch, and dinner (when I'm not @ work). He eats light tuna (3 oz)and ff cheese (1 oz) for B, tuna and cheese, yogurt, and fruit for L, and a light dinner (ie chicken and salad or steak and veggies) Very little starches. Occasionally when they have aa afternoon meeting @ work, he has pizza w/ the guys. That's about once a month.

THinking of you and your family!!! Prayers you way!

September 10, 2008

Does he get any exercise? Sometimes eating right w/out the added exercise will only MAINTAIN your weight & not ness help you loose? So glad it was not some type of tumor!

Thanks Fran!

Yes, and besides @ home, he works construction. He is an electrician, and they are doing a remodel at a hospital. He is working on the second and third floor. He uses the stairs not elevator! He carries his tools up and down all day, so that's pretty good exercise. I talked to the "witch" at his dr. office today to ask if he could get thyroid testing done, and she said only ladies have thyroid issues! I think I'm going to find a dif. dr. for him! No receptionist has the right to act that way! She said if I didn't feed him junk all the time, maybe he wouldn't weigh so much! I told her what he eats, and she said I was lying that it wasn't possible for him to gain weight without eating large quantities!!!! I still think it could be thyroid or something. I know men can have thyroid issues too, because my middle school band teacher had that. AHHHH Life can be so frustrating sometimes!!!!!

Still praying for your family! Will say a prayer for all of you at prayer circle tonight.

HAHA! "witch" is a kind word indeed for her! How uncalled for! I would report her to the Dr & next time ask her why she doesn't put her medical degree to use & stop answering the ph's since she MUST have one to be giving out diagnosis!

Sorry but I am not feeling to kind toward the medical community today. We took MIL for her 1st follow up w/her primary care Dr yesterday & she was clueless! Such a waste of time & she did not examine MIL or check any of the concerns that we expressed to her or anything! So disappointing. She is doing much better though & the rest of the follow ups over the next few weeks are with the hospital Dr's so maybe they will go a bit better.

Maybe you can post a ? to Dr Q about unexplained weight gain in men & see if he has any suggestions on how to follow up? Let me know how it goes & will cont to pray for your DH also-Thanks!
