Miscarriage after IUI

July 21, 2008

My husband has low motility and we recently had an IUI attempt (with a stimulated cycle)which was successful on the first try. I was only given 1/2 the normal dose of hormones. At 9 weeks I miscarried. Would we have any increased chance of conceiving on our own now? We are likely to try an IUI again in 2 cycles. Are we likely to get pregnant straight away again? Im just wondering if our overall fertility would be increased by the recent pregnancy

The good thing is that you can get pregnant, one can get pregnant on their own, but at a much lower rate than if an IUI is done with stimulation

Hi Dr Q - thanks for your quick response! My husband has a mild sperm motility problem and I have no fertility issues and respond very well to the injectibles - should we be hopeful to get a good result again or is a second success unheard of?

There's a good chance with you since you respond well

Thanks Dr Q. Just another quick question. Does the fact that I have just been pregnant add to my fertility & raise my chances of conceiving quickly again or is it the same chance as normal?

You have the same baseline chance and hope it'll happen the first time again

Thankyou SO much!
