Progesterone is a hormone which develops the uterine lining and helps it be maintained during a pregnancy. It should be elevated during the luteal phase which is after ovulation because the corpus luteum which is the follicle you ovulated from, starts secreting progesterone. If you have an elevated progesterone during the follicular phase that is an issue and may cause the timing of your uterine lining to be off. In that case I would suggesst IVF then freeze all the embryos then have a hormone stimulated cycle in which your progesterone levels can be controlled.

The Pituitary produces a hormone called LH in a pulsatile fashion (it's pulses, one hour higher, the next lower as the next pulse arises)...Guess what...It's this pulsatile LH that stimulates the Corpus Luteum to produce Progesterone after ovulation and during the first trimester...Hence, Progesterone levels can vary (I hope everyone can follow me..) Anyways, Progesterone luteal phase defects are not readily accepted by the fertility community...but the treatment is easy and many times we just decide to treat with either clomid or Progesterone supplementation...
