Metformin & sugar intake?

Metformin alone is inferior to Clomid, taking both as recommended by your doc is best. It's also a great idea to limit sugar intake while consuming a healthy diet

I just got diagnosed with PCOS two days ago. I am 5'4 1/2" and 135-140 pounds. The doctor told me I needed to go on the South Beach diet and exercise 30 min per day. Its not for weight loss it has something to do with insulin resistance and carbohydrates.

I got pregnant after being on metformin only (2,000 mg). I took it for only 3 months. I was not insulin resistant. Everyone is different. Metformin can work for some women, but doesnt for others. If you are on metformin, you will probably want to avoid sugar and simple carbs. When I had sugar when I was taking met I would get dizzy and nausea.

You should definately listen to what the doctor says about eating. I ate diet wheat bread the first day I took metformin and had really bad diarrhea all day and today I didnt eat any carbs fruits sugars and was fine

Hi Stacy, I was asked to limit my sugar intake too because the Insulin has a role to play in ovulation and all that mess. I did for about 6 months (I had to lose weight anyways) and I started ovulating and I feel a lot healthier and now have a baby. I am now a normal weight and BMI but still I just watch the sugar I take I actually try and follow a low sugar diet like no sugar in my coffee and no candies and if the product must have sugar limit it to 2g or less. I told my husband not to buy me chocolate for Valentines day and he comes home with Godiva chocolate which is 18g of sugar a piece. (sigh)

i went to a nutritionist awhile ago and she told me that adults should only have 50g of sugar a day. An 8 ounce glass of orange juice is about 25g. It was pretty enlightening.

I told my husband that I was going to start watching my sugar intake and what do I get for Valentines? Chocolate!!! Ugh, this is gonna be hard!
