It is not known whether it is because Metformin itself causes weight loss or is it because it can cause gastritis and/or other "not pleasant" symptoms that create the weight loss...

Regardless, weight loss of any significant amount doesn't occur after a month...

Shawnee I did not notice my weight loss until after three months of taking the metformin constantly..Originally I had began out on 2000 mg of it a day and lost 5 pounds in one weak but i couldnot tlerate it..so i cut back to three pills and then could not tolerate that and then i just stopped taking them..then I went to see a RE and he said that if i wanted to get pregnant that i would need to take it constantly so i took 2 day and then i noticed that i began to loose weight after the three month mark i within in about 4 mths i had lost about 25 pounds..I discontinued the metfromin because i got pregnant the next month and then i have been loosing because of the gastritis from pregnancy..Good luck sweetie
